  • Three Huts in Pastel

    • how to draw 3 huts pastel

These types of buildings in South Africa are known as Rondawels.

You can see them as small one roomed buildings scattered all over the urban areas and are traditional among the Zulu and Xhosa tribes. Very seldom are they larger than shown here. Families are normally grouped together. The huts are made by planting a ring of poles and then weaving very thin straight branches in between them similar to weaving a cloth. A stiff mix of clay type mud is then pushed in between the weave to form a very solid and waterproof wall. The roof is a  special thatching grass and the top is sealed for the weather.

They are warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
