  • Surf in Pastels

    • how to draw sea surf in pastel

Sitting on the beach and listening to waves breaking and the rushing noise of the surf is a wonderful relaxer and stress reliever. If you are in the right place you will be able to observe all the wonderful patterns the foam forms on the water surface.

What actually is surf? Well, it is the swell of the water which breaks out on the shore. It is also the line of foamy water caused by the breaking of the waves on the shore or beach.

The foam is actually a collection or mass of tiny bubbles of air which has been trapped by the rapid churning  of the water and the surface tension of the water.  The constant moving of the water under the foam is also instrumental in the breaking up or "popping" of the air bubbles. When this happens "holes" in the foam occur and this is what causes the patterns to form on the surface of the water.

In this lesson we will learn how to paint:
      1. Colour Perspective in the mountains
      2. Interesting sky
      3. Basic waves
      4. Some shoreline rocks
      5. The foamy surf
