The local community association has asked me to do a series of art classes for our senior citizens.

I figured the easiest thing to do and the most logical place to start with would be a drawing lesson.

Thanks to my friend and fellow PB-er Liz, I have plenty of cardboard for them to draw on.  Here is the sample for the first class.

I will start with doing practices on drawing paper: graphite rubbing for the sky, then erase out some clouds (hopefully better than mine look here).  Next we will do the "heart monitor" trees and reflections. Then we will practice flicking the fronds of the palm leaves.

Then we will put everything onto the white 8 x 10" cardboard.

I also bought each one an inexpensive daily sketch book, pencil, and eraser so they can practice at home.

Thanks, Nolan, for all you taught me.  I'm excited about doing this.  I will bring my tablet and introduce them to Paintbasket in case they want to follow up!  I will also set up some of my drawings and paintings like a little art gallery to get them in the mood.

Wish me luck.

   Fantastic Mea!!!   :yippee:

You are going to have such a blast! You are starting in the perfect way, very similar to what I did. Your drawing there by the way... is your best!!! Sincerely, this is wonderful in every aspect.

Wish I could be there in your class. Your students are going to be so lucky to have you and I'm sure they will keep you plenty busy. Congratulations and do keep us posted on the goings on. How fun!!!
Cheers, Val

This is great Mea.  Good mix to get started... don't forget a cup of tea or coffee when you describe your painting.

I suspect you will have a much fun as they will.  Enjoy!
Cheers, Annie

What a great plan, Mea, and a fine demo drawing. They will be lucky students, having you as a teacher.

Thank you, Val, Annie, Maryna, and Susan.  I appreciate your enthusiasm for this activity  Hope the seniors feel the same way.

Annie - no tea - I'd have to make too many trips to the bathroom.

I'll try to get a photo of the class to post on the FORUM!

Would love to see that Mea!

I was set to start classes up again tomorrow, but due to the expected weather conditions will have to postpone until next week.  :(

Should be great fun this year... I have 7 cruising kids as well!  :goofy:     :2funny:

Best wishes for your art class! I'm sure they will learn a lot from you.

This drawing on the cardboard is really neat. I can't put my finger on it, but it really intrigues me. Well done.:clap::clap:

Thanks, Steve.  I was hesitant to draw on the brown cardboard but Patricia talks about using "toned tan," so I thought it might work out okay.

Hey, Val, too bad we live so far apart, we could start an art school.

:heeha: Wow Mea! This is beyond exciting! I sure wish I could be there to take your classes. You are going to be a fabulous and fun teacher!!!! I do love the effect of your drawing on the cardboard. As Steve said, there is something quite intriguing about it! How did you get the white highlights? did you use a white pencil?

I can hardly wait for regular updates on your classes and students.

Had a class of 9.  They loved it.  One lady was almost in tears because she had never drawn anything before.

They want me back as often as possible and were thrilled with what they drew and loved getting their own sketchbook, pencil, and eraser to take home.

I showed them the basics of using Paintbasket so I hope a few sign up.

Teaching the class to smudge in a sky.  They thought that technique as so cool.

Look how proud they are of their drawings.

I am so pleased that it was a good experience for everyone - especially me.  Thanks Nolan and Dennis for teaching me the skills to pass on to others.
