Seal acrylic painting before framing?
« on: July 29, 2016, 05:38:38 AM »
I am ready to frame a zebra acrylic painting I did.  I used an inexpensive pre-primed canvas, clear gesso base, and Golden brand acrylic paint.  Should I seal the painting, before taking it to the framer?  If so, what product is recommended for doing this, without changing the look of the painting?

Thanks!!  April

Hi April, Nolan talks about using an acrylic varnish to seal acrylic paintings.

Here's the link:

Hope this gets you sorted.  O0

Thank you for the quick response, Val :-).  I read through it and I don't think I want the zebra to have a glossy finish.  Maybe I'll try a removable varnish though, so, if I don't like it, I can remove it.  Decisions, decisions...

Here's a link to Dick Blick. There are some matte finish acrylic varnishes available.   :)

yeah, just a matt or gloss varnish will do - If you use one brand of paint, then use their varnish O0

My acrylic works have at least three coats of matte finish sprayed on varnish on them.
