How did you retain the white flower, Val?

:heeha: Wow, how fun is that? So you just started dropping color and created your flower after it dried?  :D That is awesome. I love the shadowing. You appear to be cauliflower free too.  :yippee:

I hope this lesson will be posted soon. I'd love to watch it.  I just may have to skip out on work during live lesson time in the future.

Val,

This is fabulous.  The intensity of color is amazing.

I had wanted to immediately get started on applying the techniques from the AOL lessons but had too many things get in the way.  I will redo the lesson as soon as the replay goes up.

Nice flower, Val. I like the freeform (loose?) style you used.

    Wow Val, that flower turned out great. Looking at it, it almost looks like it is 3-D.  So interesting, I love hearing about the experimentations with colour.   Patricia

You can put a photo of one of your painting like I did, or a scenery, your pet, anything that we recognize as associated with you, or leave it blank as it is.  Up to you, just don't let tech hold you back.
Cheers, Annie

:( Since I was up earlier this morning, I typed a detailed explanation for you Susan and Kathy.....and it suddenly disappeared!         I'll try again a bit later...  weather is playing havoc with the wifi lately.

    Here it is about a year later and it seems I forgot to get back and answer your questions Susan & Kathy! I found a 'note to self' tucked in the back of my old w/c book.    Will have to leave notes telling me where to find reminder notes.     :2funny:

Yes Kathy, I wet the whole area of the paper. The first washes are quite thin and dropped in after the paper has had a minute or two to soak in some of the water. I dropped in the yellow first and then the purple and just let it do its thing. I did try to make certain I kept the central part light as that was going to be where I painted around my flower. Once that was dry, I imagined petal shapes and started painting around the petal shape with a stronger purple. Then I added some of the light purple wash with a tiny touch of the yellow wash on some of the petals to (hopefully) give a light shade colour. I added a bit more yellow to the edges where I wanted a darker shadow.

So, in reality Susan there wasn't any actual white left on the flower. Just the merest hint of the yellow from the initial wash. No white preserved. I learned that trick from Dennis when once long ago I wondered how he made a white boat look so white! He's such a clever soul!  ;)
Cheers, Val

Val,

WOW! Definitely worth the wait.  It's beautiful and thanks for sharing the technique.

I will try to do one similar - hope it won't take a year to get it posted.

Your welcome Mea, I hope you don't take a year to update a post either!  :2funny:

Since the w/c class has been postponed for a few days.....
I'm going to have a go at trying this same technique....but with a flower that has multiple layers of petals!  :D

Let the games begin!  :heeha:
Cheers, Val
