Oh, I just reread my post and hope you did not think I said BOO  meaning I was booing your drawing.  No, I meant BOO in like I am scaring you.

Your rock shapes were pretty well drawn, just needed stronger values.

 ;) Hi mea!

I was hoping you'd be online tonight. Thank you for your insight. I didn't even see your first post until you posted the 2nd one. Totally get the Boo!  ;D I didn't think I was afraid of the darks but I do see that I need more contrast.

I remember reading one of your previous comments about the rocks not being your favorite.  I can see why. They really are tough.  I want to be able to capture texture like I saw in Nolan's example. Steve did a really good job with texture and shading values. I referenced back to both of their drawings as I did mine. I struggled with the directional lines too.  Sometimes the lines recommended didn't feel right. I wanted to take my shading another direction but it really didn't work.

I feel I would benefit from doing this one again.

Just headed to bed now, KathyS.

Am so pleased with your progress.  It's so much fun to actually see people get better with every drawing.  I never realized how important drawing is until I started Paintbasket.

Aloha and have a good night.

beautiful work on both the berries and the rocks. I am very happy with how you are spotting the different tonal values :congrats:

Berries - darken the shadow cast on the left to the right of the berries, just right up against the berries O0

Beautifully done Kathy S!!!  O0   I really enjoyed the rocks, loved doing the different planes. Repeating an exercise has great merits, you can only get better by doing so.
Cheers, Val

:thankyou: Thank you Steve, Nolan and Val. I love all the encouragement and suggestions. It really helps a lot.

On the berries, I darkened the upper left leaf as suggested by mea and the shadow cast of the berries as suggested by Nolan.  Small adjustments do change the depth of the image.

This group is awesome!  :cheering: :cheering: :cheering:

:D oh my, I'm becoming addicted to sketching.  I dream about it. I think about it throughout the day at work. I spend my whole evening drawing.   :smitten:

Tonight I finished my coffee cup.  I decided to draw it free hand. I think it came out pretty good. Would love any pointers that will help me grow.

Good work, KathyS.

Your freehand cup looks better than the one I did by tracing.

One thing I learned from my mistakes is to be sure that the ellipticals are perfectly rounded on the sides.  Your are just the teensiet, tiniest bit angular.  Someone (maybe Annie) said to do the first side and get it really rounded, then flip the paper over to do the other side.  Been practicing that and it makes it easier to do the second side.

Otherwise, I think you did a good job on it.

great start to your hatching Kathy

don't worry too much about trying to fix this one, but for future remember the ovals - the bottom oval is rounder than the top one O0

:thankyou: Thank you for the feed back Nolan and mea. I really enjoy the suggestions and tips. I don't understand about the ovals and ellipticals. Nolan, are you talking about the oval at the top of the cup? Will these topics possibly come up in future classes?  :coffee:

:thankyou: Thank you Steve and Jay. I agree about the practice, practice, practice. I am drawing every evening and  am loving it.  :smitten:  I can only put in a couple of hours an night as I still work full time.

I'm glad to hear the drawing of shapes is coming up. I kind of thought it would. Nolan seems to cover everything :). I love that this course builds on the concepts very gradually and with a lot of detail.  :twothumbs:
