Kathy and Patricia,

You have both done a great job on the waterlilies.

Do note that Nolan really used a lot more darks -  sure makes good work look greater.  Don't be afraid of the dark!

Mea, I could not get my drawing any darker.  I noticed from your cupcake drawing that your graphite is very dark, what pencils are you using, if you don't mind me asking because I want to get some!!  lol!!!

Patricia,

The BEST pencils I have found are TOMBOW Homo-Graph MONO hi-precision drafting pencils.  Bought several sets on Amazon for around $10.  There are 12 pencils in the easy-to-carry-on-the-bus case from 4H to 6B.

I've tried other kinds but these are fabulous to work with.

Thanks Mea and Patricia for your encouraging comments.  I did notice that Nolan's drawing was much darker in places.  I really tried to get that dark.  Mea I will try to get the pencils you have. Kathy

 Hmmmm, wonder if I can get someone to come visit in Guatemala..... then I could have some Tombows too!  :heeha:       :2funny:

Nicely done Kathy  O0 The darks really do make this drawing, this is going to get interesting to see how dark I can get it!
Cheers, Val

Mea, I hope you received my PM in response to yours for which many thanks.  I have the Tombow pencils and dug them out of my stash. I was actually shocked that the 5B is so dark. You have actually saved me a heck of a lot of work and what could have been heartache, if I couldn't get the piece I was working on as dark as what I did, thanks so, so much for your help, you are an angel.

You ladies set a high standard with your waterlilies, but I had to try anyway.

Am quite pleased with my efforts, but still welcome your suggestions for improvement.

The photo came out somewhat tan-toned, but is quite gray-toned in real life.

I am still water-drop challenged!

Loved learning the technique for making the water movement impression, but not sure I successfully carried it out.

    Mea, a great job on a difficult subject.  My only suggestion would have been to do the actual flower (water lily) in a much lighter pencil making it pop and showing the contrast in tonal ranges better. Having said that, you still did an awesome job.

Well done Mea,  I agree with Patricia, also you have very dark contour lines you will have to soften them.

Mea:  Nice drawing of the water lilies. I like the contrast of the water.  Some petals of the lily are too dark.  Just pull out some light petals ant this will be great.

Thanks, ladies, I see what you mean.  I will get out my eraser and lighten up the flower and soften those pesky contour lines.

Appreciate your feedback.
