Nolan, I found a dried seed pod that I'd like to use in a future mixed media project. It's about 1 1/2" across, in the shape of a cupped flower. The texture is stiff and won't bend but could break as it is brittle.

Do you think I could just use a few coats of texture gel/modge podge to preserve it? Or would it not be a good idea to use organic material? Thanks  :)

there is always the risk of decay when you use organic materials in your artworks. The best you can do is to preserve them as best you can to prolong their lifespan.

I do this by sealing it, usually with a few coats of texture gel. If it is brittle and will break easily then you can use resin to coat and seal the item.

I thought I would share an experiment that i tried. Last fall I picked some pretty leaves from different trees. Then i used flower preserve. After I did this I notice that it made them brittle and they lost their bright colors. So when I was doing the sunflower mixed media. I took and used that gel medium on them. WOW color came back and they became soft. That was a great idea I had.  :2funny: anyway just thought I would share this.

 Brilliant.  Hey, I think I have some of that stuff.  May have a go at it.
