1 Please DO NOT delete any photos from your gallery that you have used inside a post.

I have had to delete hundreds of topics and posts because the photos in those topics and threads had been deleted.

It is all good wanting to keep your gallery neat and tidy, but you end up leaving the entire forum full of dead picture links if you are not careful. These links look like this:
That leaves not only your post, and often the entire topic, useless, but has wasted the peoples time that have so kindly commented on your artwork. It also makes it very frustrating for others browsing the forum as they keep getting to topics where people are commenting and giving advice on non-existent artworks.

If you want to delete a photo, copy the smg shortcode as though you are going to add it to a post, then paste it into the search box near the top right hand corner of the page, click the search button. You will then get a list of any posts where the image has been added. If you get one or more posts, don't delete the image. If you get no search results, feel free to delete it.

2 Images that have not been added to posts will be deleted soon

In order to conserve server space I will be deleting all images in the gallery that have not been added to a post for comment, etc. I will start the delete process in 7 days time. So if you have any images in your gallery, where the only copy of that image is here on the website, ie., you don't have it on your hard drive at home anymore, please go to those images in your gallery and download them now. Once they have been deleted from the site, I cannot restore them.

In future, all photos that have not been added to a post on the forum will be automatically deleted once a day.

Please don't upload images to your gallery just for the sake of uploading them, they just get lost in the noise and nobody ever sees them. If you upload a photo, always add it to a post so others can enjoy and comment. This is especially true for new members - uploading a heap of photos to your gallery here and then never coming back to the site is NOT going to give you the exposure you are looking for. Sites like Facebook, Fine Art America and Etsy are where you want to add your photos in order to gain exposure. This is a learning website where artists come to get feedback on their artworks so they can improve. Nobody comes here looking for paintings that they can buy.

Thanks for the information Nolan.
I have put photos on in the past that I didn't get round to sharing. They were just cloud formations. I've got back ups of them anyway so, it doens't matter about losing 'em.
It's good to know about these issues.  O0

The only ones I have that may not be posted are listed in a reference group. I am not sure if I have shared them in a post. I put them in there before you had a separate category on the forum.  Should I try to move those over? I am not sure how to move the whole group. I know some of them have been used for art work that has been posted.

just create yourself a post on the forum and add them to the post, then they will show the system that they are in use O0

Thanks for this information, Nolan. So now I hope that a nice painting  in the forum hasn a post to it to comment.
I have copies of my acrylics im gallery without posts- so, no worry if deleted.
I find PB a great learning platform. I have said this before and saying it again. Thanks to you and Dennis for creating this  and to other PBs who keep its maintenance.  :thankyou: :smitten:

Nolan, I have found a few spots in older posts where paintings/drawings were posted, but the photo has disappeared despite the fact that the post they were in is still there. Any idea what happened? Should I put them back in the post?

As a new member and one might consider a "Silver Surfer", I am still trying to get my head around the forum and how to post photographs.  The tuition is amazing but some of us are not computer literate and need constant help until we get used to the format.  I am trying to post photos of coursework and am still struggling.  I posted a couple of photos to a personal file just to let members know that I am genuine!

Maggie,

I know I had to go through those same growing pains when I first joined Paintbasket.  I just read this page a few times to finally get the routine correct. (http://www.paintbasket.com/members/index.php?topic=504.0)

Give it another go and we'll be on the lookout for your work.

Maggie, if you still have troubles after following Mea's suggestion, just sing out and we'll get you sorted.  O0
No worries, the process is quite simple once you get the hang of it.  :banghead:       ;)      ;D
