Wonderful stonework, Mea, especially that large one attached to the building proper. Keep up the great practice!

Well done Mea!  :heeha:   Nice texture/shadings in the stones. You should be proud Mea, after doing the stone wall in the pastel pencil lesson, I can attest to the patience and fortitude it takes. Great job!!!
Cheers, Val

Val, I feel that in the last month, I have turned the corner.  I can render drawings that look like what I am looking at!  I feel so good at the growth I have achieved since the Let's Draw Course.  It gave me such a good foundation to build on.

UPDATED WORK:  Here are the leaves after using rubbing alcohol to blend the watersoluable pencil.  Do they look better now?  The paper is Strathmore Bristol, smooth surface, 400 series

I work with a non-profit group that is very rooted in Hawaiian tradition.   We are going to have a funding awards ceremony soon and I wanted to draw something special for it.

These are Taro (kalo) leaves, essential to the Hawaiians to sustain their way of life.

I am going to have them made into matted prints for those who attend the gathering.

I still have a day or two to make changes before I place the order.  Any suggestions?

The leaves look good Mea.

In the Caribbean it is mostly the tuber of the plant that is used as a staple. It is more commonly known as  Dasheen here. Funny how one thing can garner so many different names.

Sketching practice from my Las Vegas trip - whenever and where ever I could.

Cyprus tree in my friend's backyard - it's at least 25 feet tall.

Honolulu Cookie Company shortbread cookie served with my tea on the plane

Sketches from a magazine (flower done with charcoal (not a good tool to use on the plane); others are graphite) - Top left is from the airline safety poster - lady reaching under seat for life vest!

I love your sketches, Mea. That tree and the flower are my favorites! You make me want to start sketching.

EmmaLee,

Practicing sketching has made such a difference in my work.  Nolan's Let's Draw course started me out in the right way and now I hardly let a day go by without some sketching practice.

Mea, I just love your sketches and you are doing so well with them.  Makes me want to pick up the pencil again but I have far too much work here to get done first.  Every time I take a break, I come to the computer to have a look at what's going on.  Miss you all so much.

Thanks, Patricia.

I am happy with my progress.  My weakness is still cast shadows.  Gotta practice those more.
