New to pastel painting I bought a box of Pelikan oil pastels. No way to use them on 250 gr. acquerelle paper, and also with smoother paper the result is very poor as per attachment.
Where is the problem ? In myself, in the paper or in the pastels ?
Am I better off with soft pastels ?
Thanks for any help gisco
PS: how can I attach a picture ?
Ciao a tutti Gisco

Gisco, We mostly use the soft pastels and pastel pencils (Faber-Castell which are excellent). I don't know anything about oil pastels so cannot give an opinion.  I use Strathmore Toned sketch paper medium surface 80 lb which I find is excellent but there are many others.  However, wait until Dennis comes by and he will give you his expert suggestions as to what you should purchase.  Hope this helps.

Go to the Forum page.
At the bottom, go to 'Tech stuff'.
Then under the heading 'How to attach a picture to your post' you will find clear instructions on how to post a photo on the forum and on how to attached it inside your posted text.
Cheers, Annie

I am a bit confused; had replies to my question from Patricia and Annie and when I see their messages at the bottom of the page in order to thank them I choose "Reply". Is this a reply to both of them ? What is the procedure if I want to reply only to one of them ?
Hope you both see it; thanks Patricia, for sure I will change to soft pastels, they are not available here in Riva but next week I will be in Venice and for sure there are better equipped Art stores.
Thanks Annie, wil follow your instructions and try to post my poor efforts with oil pastels.
To both and to all my new colleagues best wishes for a Happy Christmas and Prosperous new Year.

Gisco,

Looks like you figured it out as you answered appropriately.

The REPLY goes to the entire topic.  Most people place the name of the person they want to reply to at the start of the message.

And, as you just did,  you can use one message to reply to several people.  I often do that, rather than a single reply to each one.

You are getting it!!
