I thought I would try a PNI of my daughter's house after watching the Beautiful House lesson.

Linda,

I know nothing about doing pen n ink, so all I can say is that you did a great job.

My only concern is the vertical line on the side of the house looks slanted, but I hope it is just a camera distortion.  It happens to me all the time.

Your daughter will be thrilled with this.

Thank you Mea!  I wondered about the perspective.  The eye level is somewhere under the bottom windows, so we are looking up and face on.  Wouldn't that make the lines go to a vanishing point up above the house? But even if that is so, should I straighten it anyway?

The detail on this is fantastic, Linda! But I agree with Mea, the house seems to be leaning backwards...not sure how to correct that...
Cheers,
Sharon

Hmmm... Linda.  As I recall, verticals lines on buildings have to be straight up and down, but let's hope someone with more experience gives you the answer.

Love the style of the old house.

Thanks Sharon and Mea!  I decided to see if i could straighten it, and it does look a lot better straightened.  Can't do anything about the right side, but i don't think it is too bad.  I will just have to file this information away for the next time.  Here is the corrected copy.

Excellent techniques, Linda    Because the camera was tilted upwards to get the building in the photo, it changed the normal perspective. Most draw it exactly as per the photograph instead of righting the verticals. In my watercolour lesson on The Gate  I show you how to fix the verticals before starting the painting.

Thank you Sharon, Mea, Christina, Val, and Lisa!!
Thank you Dennis.  Your class on "The Gate" will be my next one!

By the way, I texted a copy of the painting to my daughter, and she loved it!!!  She had no idea I was doing a painting of her house.
