Hi all,
After that other ladybug I did a few days ago, (http://www.paintbasket.com/members/index.php?topic=8130.0), one of my neighbors wanted a smaller version so here's a 4"x6".

It's done on 4"x6" Canson's, 140lb cold press paper with cheapo Wal-Mart Daler Rowney watercolor paints.
It's my first commissioned work as a WIP.  :yippee: I believe the background came out too dark, IMO, but comments and criticisms are welcomed at this stage.

Rick,

Congrats on the commission.  The lady bug is such a fun one to paint.

You might want to try a darker red for the "shell" of the Ladybug, unless it's going to be an impressionistic painting.  If so, that delicate color will go well with your background..

Congrats on the commission! Love the background - will you be adding spots to the ladybug?
Cheers,
Sharon

Really getting there.

It's looking good...but just a suggestion...if you're doing commissions it might be time to give up the cheap paints and invest in artist quality ones instead...
Cheers,
Sharon

Yikes! I'd have to charge a lot more money for my paintings then I'm doing now while I'm still learning. I'm not sure I'm ready to move on up yet. I'm certainly not good enough at this time. I need much more experience. I'm only charging her $7.50 for this small 4"x6" painting.
I only do;
4"x6" paintings ($7.50)
5"x7" paintings ($10) and
8"x10" paintings ($15)
I don't care to do anything larger and my paper is also not top of the line either.

Thanks Sharon. I appreciate you...  :smitten:
And you too Mea.  :flowers:

You're doing better than me, Rick, I give more away than I sell.

I bet soon you'll be getting enough commissions to afford better paint and paper!!! You're quite good, Rick...don't underestimate yourself...and a lot of folks prefer smaller paintings since their walls are usually filled with art already!
Cheers,
Sharon
