More about tulips!

Hopefully I'll be able to post this when I'm finished. I'm about 2/3 the way to completion. I promise it'll be interesting... couldn't decide which colour for the background,  :-\  sooooo....I chose 3! Couldn't decide on the colour of the tulip,  ???  soooo I drew more. Decided this might be a good time to try the masking fluid again. Worked better than previous attempts.  :) Also decided to try a couple of different techniques I'd seen........ well what can I say...... its different!  >:D  Coming Soon!!  :2funny:

How are your tulips coming along Kelley?

Nice composition and lovely colors. You are just missing the shadow areas to give it that 3 dimensional look. I will be demonstrating that in January.

Nice tulips Val.  I love that background.     :congrats:     How did you do that    Watercolor, huh?   I'm looking for the tulips thread.

I don't like to wish my life away, but I'm sure looking forward to Dennis' watercolor classes.

 Thanks Lillian. The background was done by just drawing lines with masking fluid (to get white streaks), once that was dry I flooded only the background area and just dropped in colour at random and let it move and blend of its own accord until it dried.  If you reach a point where you like the look of the effect you can dry it quicker with a hairdryer and it will stop the paint interacting any further.
When the painting is thoroughly dry, you then can remove the masking fluid which allows the white of the paper to show.
Now...if only I could get it to blend in a more 'controlled' manner!  ;D This is where Dennis comes in...... :smart:
