How exciting!  :heeha:   What paper did you use for the pastel portrait?

Cheers, Val

Oh thanks Patricia, you make me  but believe me, you are an inspiration!!!.  Val, for life class I am using either canson, Strathmore or daler rowney pastel paper.  I may use sanded paper at some point but the smoother paper is faster for me to use in class and doesn't require as many layers.  Dennis, it means a lot that you are looking in.  Thanks, I owe my passion to you and Nolan, my very first teachers :smitten: :flowers:

Thanks Lynn, I still have some Canson. That's what I thought I'd give a go for a charcoal portrait of my son in happier times. Haven't tried one in charcoal... at least that I remember!  I wouldn't hold my breath though, this is going to take a while, unlike your lovely portrait creations.  ;D

Oh good Val, can't wait.  May I suggest that you put a tone of charcoal all over the paper before beginning--it makes it so much easier to use your eraser for light areas.  I use sand paper on a charcoal stick of vine right over the paper to create charcoal powder and then I just rub in with circular strokes.

Similar to one of Nolan's grains of wisdom from the graphite course. I'll be trying that for sure, thanks.  O0
