Well, I dropped off two paintings for the West Hills Art League Spring Show. This is a first for me. The reception is on Mother's Day and will run for 11 days. On the 21st, the artwork will be critiqued and judged. I actually feel like I left my children out there. Every painting has a little of me in them. I can hardly breathe I'm so excited. :help: :pullhair:
I don't expect to win anything there are some wonderful pieces displayed already. Some artists are professional instructors. Oh well, at least I'm getting my feet wet. Question: if the reception is four hours long should I be there the whole time?

Personally, Carol, I'd be there the whole time!  If my work were there, I would want to be there to talk about it when someone has a question.  Stand proud!

Maybe you will win "Rookie of the Year" honors!

Good luck.  I'm excited for you.

Carol, may the exhibition go well with you    It's not the winning that counts, but the participation that builds you up :flowers:

Carol - so proud of you for participating in this program. It takes a lot of courage to allow ourselves to be judged. And don't sell yourself short - I bet your work is as good if not better than your competition! Which paintings did you submit? And good luck!!
Cheers,
Sharon

Carol, I always tell my 4-H kids that I teach, that it is the experience of displaying their art in public that counts more than winning. Viewing art is VERY subjective. A judge may feel one way one day and a different way on another day depending on how he how his day is going. It is not a statement that any one piece is bad or good in comparison to other pieces. It is more an expression of how a viewer is feeling about themselves at the moment of judging. Just think of the many other viewers and how your art may make them feel real good about themselves! There are no losers in art! Just sharing of feelings by the artists and by the viewers. Winning is just a little icing on the cake. Good luck!
Where ever you go....there you are.

You've already won! You've taken the hardest step of all....the first step outside your studio door!!!  :congrats:

Enjoy the experience and pick up some pointers. I look at these exhibits as a chance to get some ideas and if the opportunity arises to perhaps even learn a new technique or two! Relax and have fun.....your 'kids' look great!  O0

I completely understand Carol!!! I want to start selling paintings, but it is so hard to part with them.
Good Luck on the exhibition, very exciting.

Someone asked me if it was hard to part with my paintings and I said no. First of all, once I finish one piece in excited to start on the next. Secondly, knowing my painting will give someone pleasure for years to come pleasures me. And third, I keep photos of all my paintings on my iPhone and computer and can look at them as often as I choose - which I do a lot. Sell away Carol and Cheryl!!
Cheers,
Sharon

As Val said, you have already won just because you had the confidence to enter. I would stay the entire reception - you never know when somebody important comes to chat O0
