My neighbor has several lovely waterfront vacation rentals on my street.  She asked if I'd be interested in painting some local scenes to display for sale in the houses.  She is quite an art lover and has had my husband make a number of lamps for her out of exotic Hawaiian woods.

She says her guests love to take home small, easily packable locally made souvenirs of their stay.

I'll make a few samples and see how it goes!

Here is an additional idea... in addition to the few paintings on the wall, you could leave a coffeetable book (or a cheaper binder) with photos of your other paintings.  As they sold you can add little stickers 'sold'.  Who knows, someone may like something else (the French guy may want a rooster!) and you could get a commission. When you are comfortable, you can leave an advertisement on the last page of the book: 'bring your favorite scene/vacation photo for an estimate'.

Could you PM me the name of her rental company?
Cheers, Annie

Jennylynn - thanks, don't know why I did not think of it.  Plus I have several other friends who manage vacation rentals in my area.

Annie - Thanks.  Great ideas.  Actually my neighbor is her own rental company.  She owns all the houses.  Let's talk.

Val and Robin - Thanks.  I am excited. I just read an old book (1990) by Steward Biehl called, "How to Succeed as an Artist in Your Home Town" and it has lots of ideas now that I am being offered a home base to test the waters.

I'm so proud of you, Mea!! What a great opportunity and what a testament to your artistic talent that your friend has requested your art in her homes. She could even offer a "meet the artist" event!!! Be sure to show us which paintings you display. Can't wait to read about that first sale!!!

A friend of mine wants to introduce me to a stager friend of hers about using my paintings/prints in homes for sale. Now you've got me excited to pursue that!!
Cheers,
Sharon

Thanks, Sharon.  Great opportunity for you, too, with a house stager.

So many opportunities around us if we just get out there and look.

Thanks, Nolan, Jill , and Robin.

My problem is having the time to do the paintings to sell.  One of my friends suggested making packs of postcards of my paintings of local scenes to start until I get time to paint some new original scenes.  Very little profit in postcards, though.
