I am painting a large picture of two macaws in oils.   How can I make the feathers look realistic?

Wild life artist John Seerey-Lester has a wonderful video on painting feathers in acrylics, which could also be utilized with oils.

HERE is the link I found to the videos Sharon is talking about

Look out for the shadows that the top feather casts on the bottom feather, this is one of the things I have found that help to create depth when painting feathers
