I've heard it said that you shouldn't put the date on the front of your paintings. You can put information about the painting on the back (ie: date, title, location, etc.) Only the signature of the artist should be on the front.
What are your thoughts on this?
Cheers, Val

In my humble opinion I would only put the signature.  I would put the year on a painting if it were to show my own progress (the year just below or beside, but in small print if the painting can accommodate). There is plenty of room on the back of the paper, canvas or panel for the rest as you mentioned.

Thanks Kelley.
I'll definately watch for it Nolan. I had a good time watching you paint yesterday (short as my time was), I did gain a few insights and hopefully won't be so 'nit-picky' (is that a word?) in future.  :yippee:

You've no idea how much I appreciate you putting up the reruns. Without them I'm afraid I would still be making many small mistakes which tend to multiply into real whoppers! The little snatches I pick up while (trying  :2funny:) to watch the live show, are invaluable. Then seeing the complete show afterwards, is like the sun breaking through a black cloud.  :yippee: Brilliant.
