:thankyou: Robin for your comment on Teddy!

Ann-Mari, I always liked horses, maybe that will be next. . . I did the meerkat which kinda looks like the squirrel and did landscape drawings. . .i watch the videos over and over until I get inspired and motivated to draw something!  The weather is nice so I'm swimming laps again at the YMCA, but there's my art table beckoning me to come back!   :)

I know it doesn't look like the lesson.  I was watching 2 kids and thought I would draw and then my picture took on a life of its own.  I wasn't sure if I was to do the boat shadow or reflections of the sails?  ~Liz

:) So happy to see you here, Happychappy Patricia!  Thank you always for your kind support!

I haven't painted since the Health Foodie acrylic I did for a friend.  Instead, I am in the summer vacation mode (taking a break), hoping that I can keep my hands in some art with occasional drawing with pencils.  Emily is going to high school next year, imagine that, and has teenage interests now.  She was my main reason for doing art since we did it together.  She was 10 when we both came to Paint Basket and I started her album.

:thankyou:  ROBIN, for your kind comment!  I noticed from the photo that the dark parts of the boat needed to be shaped better so I tidied it up a bit.  The Let's Draw notes are helpful and I tried the masking skill to do the sails.  :)

I think you can make the reflection of the boat in the water longer O0

Will do, NOLAN!  Thanks so much for advising me; I'm studying the Let's Draw notes on Light, shadows and reflected light, pp. 46-47

I am still not too clear on the light and shadow effects of the boat in the water.
1) If the boat blocks the sun then the water closest to the bottom is dark; that would be a shadow, right?
2) Would the sails be reflected as similar to their shape, or
3) Would they be an elongated blur in the water which is what I tried.

Thanks Nolan.  I guess I should also study some photos of boats in the water.

the reflection would elongate, but just doing something like this works fine:
more detail near the boat then less as the reflection moves away O0

:thankyou: NOLAN!  You are a genius, and your final touches did the trick!    I really like it a whole lot better and will remember what you showed me!  :)

THANKS, DANIELLE!  I'm trying as you can see! You are way more advanced with your art skills than me!  I should devote more time to drawing and painting, shouldn't I?! ::)   -Liz
