:D your painting is coming along beautifully, Val. What is it about the door that you struggle with? The outline looks good. I went back and looked at the reference photo and it is a very interesting texture to the old worn wood.

I don't feel qualified to be giving you advice as you have so much more experience than I have. I know nothing about pastels so my only suggestion comes from what I've learned drawing. That would be to just focus on the section you are painting at the time.  :detective: Look for little shapes and match those. I've found that they don't make sense while I'm drawing them. Then when I walk away and comeback, wow!  :heeha: It looks like the reference.

Thank you for the encouragement Steve, Kathy, and Patricia.

Kathy, I'm just having difficulties to get the greys on the door. I have no grey pencils and the mixes just aren't cutting it for me. I'll keep at it and hopefully hit on it before I wear out the paper!  :crazy2: Who would have thought mixing black and white would cause so much grief?!
Cheers, Val

Val, don't worry if you do not have the exact colour. Use what ever colours you have. I'm not looking at exact matching - only the techniques O0

:surrender: Have been at it most of the night.... about another 5hrs.    I'm calling this done.

Many thanks to all for their unflagging encouragement, it really kept me going when I just wanted to pack it in. I have to say this has been the most difficult lesson for me. Probably the one I've learned the most from. I learned so much about blending, colour mixing, not rushing (maybe a bit near the end  ), and how to work boss-eyed!     :2funny:

Ta much Dennis, feel free to put me through the wringer anytime! It has been a pleasure!  :faint:

I'm afraid the colouring looks off, poor lighting once again. Good enough to get the idea though.

Cheers, Val

:congrats: Val, This is absolutely perfect. I love the color of the door!  :smitten: You made a perfect grey.  The grain of the wood is great. Of course, I already loved the rocks.  ;) A work well, done!  :yippee: :yippee:

Kathy you are an unflagging optimist! A lot like myself   ;D ....except where my artwork is concerned  :-\ Love you for it!  :-*

Thank you Patricia for your constant encouragement, much appreciated.  :flowers:

Danielle, somehow that little guy just keeps coming back to haunt me! I am still working on that little girl....she is only about half bald now  :2funny: I must do it in short spurts and take long breaks as it is very hard on my eyes. I doubt I'll be doing many more of these once done.
You are right though...it's about time I pull her out of mothballs again  agh!
Thank you for your comments, and the ever appreciated boot in the bum!

Ta much Susan.  :flowers:

Thanks much Steve.  :flowers:
Cheers, Val

Dennis, I must say I had serious doubts about this one. I did learn a great deal from this one, and highly recommend this lesson. It is definately worth any 'bumps' in the road!  O0
The journey was not without  casualty..... It actually turned me into a snaggle-toothed harpy!  Funny now, but oh poor Lloyd!  ::) My strongest supporter actually suggested I set it aside as no one would hold it against me, to which I 'snarled'.... "I will"!  :furious:
Sounded like something from the exorcist! Wonder if my head was spinning?       :2funny:
Cheers, Val
