Thanks Dennis,

Really looking forward to that. Love your portraits. Particularly love the light you have on the second one. Great expressions.

Here's my suggestion,

anyone interested in learning how to paint skin tones? I would love to learn how to mix the right colors, how to blend, how to shade and highlight and how to acheive luminous skin.
Very good suggestion Anya. It took me lots of practice to do skin color on my Pastel paintings but (good advice) with perseverance, lots of coffee, chocolates, etc, you will manage it. Believe me that is how you learn and improve. Can't wait for Dennis and Nolan to come up with yet a brilliant solution to our predicaments.

Sorry Nolan and Dennis, my sentence was poorly written. I meant you will come up with yet ANOTHER brilliant solution.   Will teach me to read first before I press send he?  :knuppel2:

You have more than inspired me. How long have you been doing pastels?

I started in May with my first one ever  and produced 3 since.  :fight:I just kept on and on and on until I mastered it. Hang in there if you struggle.

Very nice portraits Dennis. Posed portraiture has such a regal quality to them.
The moment you find yourself mostly satisfied with a painting and think you'll "just quickly" do this or that, that's the moment to stop completely. Take the painting off your easel and put it aside for at least 24 hours, then reassess whether it really needs that tweak.

:welcome: Irene, there haven't been a challenge in quite some time, however there are many classes you can take,  in oils and watercolours, there are also some free classes, check it out under the events section.

Also have a look around the forum, there is some great stuff on the site.

 :welcome: to Paintbasket, Irene.

I hope you enjoy looking around.  This is a friendly community and if you need any help navigating the site, there are lots of folks here who would gladly help you out.

I've learned a lot about art from Nolan and Dennis, who I think are the best tutors anyone could find anywhere.
