Hello everyone :) , I am from sunny South Africa (well not so sunny today... it is overcast and rainy)... Somerset West (Cape Town) area.  Joined Paint Basket a while ago, but this is my first post in the forum.  Might take me a while to get to know all the ins and outs...but with patience I am sure I will get there.  I am part of quite a few other art sites like South African Artists.com, ArtClutch and FineArtAmerica.com, Facebook Fan Page, Stumble Upon, Google+ to name but a few... this all to get the marketing going. I have found the art community in general very helpful and encouraging and I am really looking forward to be part of the community here  :D

More about me: My real name is Leana de Villiers

I paint under the pseudonym of 'MOW' (same sound as you would say 'WOW'), a nickname given to me because of my love for cats. I am completely self-taught and Art is my passion, actually to such an extent that I have been called an Art-Addict by friends and family.

I started painting in 1999. With no formal training, I started out my venture by gaining as much knowledge and information as possible through reading, watching and doing.  Unfortunately I was forced to take a few years break from painting due to the fact that my focus and attention was required elsewhere.  I missed being creative and it has become an integral part of my life as well as the person I am today.  It was worth all the effort and the time I invested from the start.  Researching about art and painting also forms an important part of my creative self.

I paint in various mediums ranging from acrylics, mixed media, oils and  I enjoy the unique quality that each medium has to offer.   Sometimes a painting or title starts in my mind as an idea and can take weeks or months before it is actually created.  I will play with the idea or title of the painting in my mind over and over until I feel totally satisfied with what I want to do or achieve.  Only then do I start working on the actual creation process and I seldom know what the end result will be.  My art engages the whole of my being: not just the intellect, but also the emotional, psychological and spiritual. In other words, all my paintings come from within.  My aim is to draw the viewer into the work and let the work speak to the viewer on an intimate level, evoking different feelings and emotions through colour, texture and subject matter.

I am also an avid amateur photographer.  When something catches my eye, I find the temptation of pressing the button on my camera irresistible … it could be an idea for my next painting.

Have not uploaded any artwork yet... I will hopefully get there soon.

Nolan and Dennis, thank you for a great site and community.   :yippee:  Love these funny faces btw

Looking forward meeting you all

Also looking forward to hearing your insights into the marketing of your art. I am gearing up to do a series on art marketing, so I may just be knocking on your Skype door for an interview soon

Nolan, I also have my paintings on Southafricanartists.com.  Take a look at this awesome site as it is an internet gallery for all artists famous and unfamous for various art including drawing, photography etc.   I have sold a few paintings here.  I set my price then they mark it up and sell to the world, that way both parties win.   Maybe it is something to add to your site!!  Can give you more info if you are interested.  You may know about this site already.   :)

Hi Leanna, you can go to the "Watch paintbasket TV" on top of the page and then request a reminder (on left of page) to be sent to you.  This is very worthwhile and exciting. :yippee: :yippee:
