I have been practicing my drawing and did this portrait of a dog from morguefile:

I try and draw something each day.  This is what I have been up to lately.  Here are two portraits I did. This is from PMP

\

This is a portrait of my daughter in law.

Any advice, is appreciated.  I am trying to learn to "see" and get the subject on the paper and have it look like what I see.

Sketching and drawing is the foundation. The more you do it the more solid the foundation becomes O0

Mary Lou,

I agree with Nolan and Dennis about the value of continuing to practice sketching.  You are off to a good start.  keep at it.

I understand the value of frequent sketching, and learning who to draw.

But how do you get over the hump of overworking sketches?   Or more precisely, never doing much of it because of the inability to stick to a short session.

Drawing is a detailed time consuming activity, but I am told that sketching should be done more quickly (yet precisely) and very often.   But when one is stuck with details, one doesn't easily pick up the sketching pad...  :'(
Cheers, Annie

Thanks Jennylynn.   :thankyou:

Annie, I am only just beginning with my art.  I just wanted to learn to draw or sketch out something that I see and to see it as an artist.  Seeing shapes and shadows, etc....it is not easy for me....But I have come a long way from where I was a year ago.  So my focus is the shapes and how they relate to each other rather than making a precise "drawing".  Just a learning tool.

Thanks Mea and Bella!  I started seeing double after doing this and thought I lost the feel of the flower.  Glad you see it.

what you want to do is go and watch the rose class again, I show how to get the looking in effect. You often have to use your artist license to exaggerate the value in order to get the effect O0
