Thank you everyone - I'm really having fun with this one. Who knew there were so many colours to mud!! And as a bonus I get to cover myself in various shades too - I looked like the "Swamp Monster from the Deep" when I finished off the first layers  :heeha:

Cheers

I'm so pleased there are others who follow suit!!  :heeha:   How's the carpet......?       :2funny:

He's nearly there - and I'm quite pleased so far. There is a bigger version in my Art Projects folder in my profile though, I thought it better to put a smaller version up on the forum mind. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

And Val - I'm painting this in the kitchen where there's a tiled floor, that way i can just sweep instead of scrub   :heeha:

This is shaping up beautifully.  You have blended the colors so well.

And here he is all finished ...  he was great fun to paint as well. Now onto the next one of the "Big 5" .....  Elephant, rhino, leopard or the lion ??

If there are any improvements I could make please let me know.

It looks great!
I think since it is such a warm toned painting you can push the dark areas even more.
It doesnt need it though.

Fi,

I think of all the pastels that have been posted so far, this is the most masterful.  Your blending is fantastic.

I love it.  Be proud!

:'(   He looks so sad   :'(  so melancholy. Don't understand it....he's so beautiful!

I think if you can deepen the darks to bring the highlights out a bit more he'll just zing off the page. Just a thought.

Beautifull buffalo,  i would also make the back just below the hair. a bit darker at the top to lighter to give it a bit of a rounding.

:thankyou: Natalie, Mea, Patricia, Val and Danielle.

I will push the darks a bit further, to give more definition and to make the back more rounded - good suggestions there  :) This is what makes this forum such a valuable resource, the unbiased opinion of your peers and fellow artists!

Val - he;s not sad, he's just in a deep meditative trance contemplating the mysteries of the universe  ....   ;)

I shall get right on those changes .... I might even get round to completing the mixed media challenge too - the preliminary drawing has been sitting there for a few days now.

Cheers

Fiona,

This is magnificent!! His eye looks so much brighter now.  Darkening the darks made a huge difference.

Isn't it wonderful to have PB friends to consult!

Very nice Fiona!! I admire how well you handle pastels. I'm a little iffy about all that dust.
