Thanks Val, I think you are going to tear it up with all your new goodies.  Hear is the final of my portrait--I think I will post it under the one above.

Well this is my second or maybe third plein air painting and it was so much fun today but a learning experience as it was wicked windy.  My friend's easel crashed but luckily all her pastels were on a folding table next to her.  I definitely need a rock bag to weigh mine down in the wind.  This is a Julian Easel, and I just set a small pastel set on top.  You can see the big rubber band around my drawing board as the board kept flying toward me.  Fun nonetheless.  This one needs a lot of studio tweeks to correct perspective and clean up edges.

I did a charcoal drawing on sanded paper first, fixed it with Blair and then started the pastel.

I almost went for a french easel instead of the box, decided the box was just easier for me to manage. My art rucksack has a built in seat, so should be easy for me to sit and just have the box w/easel on my lap until I can find my tripod.  Your easel does look much more solid and stable.    I will have to speak with the local carpenter here and see if he could rig something up for me. He made my w/c paper stretcher boards for me.

Great scene, and I love the light and shadows from the trees. Could use a bit of that sunshine here! Looks like another rainy day in paradise here. How fun to have a friend to go and paint with, perhaps I will be able to join in one day.  ;D

Cheers, Val

    Lynn you have done another beautiful pastel painting despite the windy conditions which must have been so annoying.

This is a portrait of my mom for her birthday (Shhh, don't tell her it's here)
Any last minute thoughts about changes are welcome.

Banner piece Lynn! I have enlarged the photo as much as I can, and even with my magnifier it looks excellent  O0 Even with the shadow across her face the eyes are easily visible and look lifelike. The colourings are superb. I am gobsmacked! Your best to date.  :congrats:

Thanks so much Dennis and Val.  I fiddled a bit more to get more dimension in the shirt but finally framed it.
