    Lynn your work is phenomenal.  Thank you for the explanation of how your tutor goes about his pastel work which was very interesting indeed.  Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Thanks so much Patricia and Fi.  The thing I am learning in this course is to use fixative frequently in the middle of the piece and to keep the darks transparent and the lights heavy, like oil.  I'm not good at it yet. This is where I am on this thus far.  I still need to adjust some values and add some lights.

OMG, Lynn.  Is there anything you cannot do?  This is terrific, as is everything you do.  I have no experience with pastel, but you seem to be catching on right off.

Beautiful.

Oh Lynn - this is just gorgeous! I love your portraits, but there's about this scene that shows your skills set have gone to a completely different level. I say put the brush down - it's fantastic as is!! ❤️❤️

You are all so kind!!!  Thanks Val, my teacher wants me to try and draw in some faint detail back in the shadows as he thinks it looks a bit too empty.  I think he is right.  The trees are aso a bit spotty and I need to highlight the people a bit.  I think I will try and draw in a waiter.  Mea, you are funny.  This is coming along because I took my time with the initial drawing--a very good reminder for me!  Thanks so much Win, Teresa, Rebecca and Sharon.  Sharon, I will never be able to leave portraiture behind, it is my true love.

   Oh! Lynn, this is superb and I would be scared of messing it up with adding a waiter or anything else for it is perfect as it is.

Yes, Patricia--I was very scared.  However, I am in this class hoping to stretch myself so I took a chance.  (I remember thinking as he was speaking "add things? what do you think I am, an artist :o :o "  Ha! I think my teacher's thought was that the people under the portico weren't grabbing enough interest and I needed more depth.  Don't know what he will think of these changes, will find out Wednesday.  Not quite done but I am posting the last one along with changes underneath--waiter, extra person who I guess is ordering and some doors.  What do you think?

Lynn, Definitely a nice touch to add the waiter.

The printing on the sign is so good!

Love this.

(I remember thinking as he was speaking "add things? what do you think I am, an artist :o :o "  Ha!

    You....an artist...... the nerve.....   :2funny:    :2funny:    :2funny:

Ok, my day is made and the sun won't be up for a while yet! (uproarious laughter...sniffle..sniffle)

Well, if you weren't before you certainly are now. The waiter and extra person are brilliant.... the additional reflected light under the portico on the wall and doors is a stroke of genius. More depth, more interest added, it is telling a story now. I can here china and cups and glasses clinking from within, murmur of voices, the waiter discussing the day's menu items... so glad you left out the dog weeing on the right hand column  ;)     :2funny:

Seriously Lynn, if I didn't need my cash to buy more pastels and paper..... you could stick a red dot on this one.  O0

Oh yes.... that teacher of yours... he's a clever fellow and guiding you well. Banner job.

Cheers, Val
