Wow, thank you, Nolan!  It looks like I'm not going to make my deadline of Sunday, so I will just give that long-shot up. You just can't rush something like this.

Well, the painting is done, even though I had given up finishing it on time. Thanks for all your support, everyone!

The completed piece has that wonderful feel of soft fabric folds-texture and colors are nice and subdued.  You did a beautiful job Alice.

Bravo Alice!!!! What a fantastic piece of art. You mentioned it's going on an adventure - what happens next? I believe you should submit this to a juried show. This would be a first place contender!

Hi, everyone!

Yes, this one is going into the El Dorado County Fair and today (June 2nd, 2014) is the entry day. I will definitely be a contender for "Pest in Show" just by sheer volume of work. I've been framing stuff all weekend.

Alice, this is stunning!    You have beautifully captured the texture and softly muted (by age) colors of the quilt. What painstaking work!

Did you learn anything new throughout this process?

Many good wishes for your fair entries.

Thanks, Sue! I really appreciate your comments.

Yes, I learned a lot! How to use warm and cool grays, how to make each part interesting even though the model was just one color (or so it seemed). How to make the soft puffy sections and how to resist "straightening" lines or making dots round and allowing my imagination to fill in the information. How to not make something look over worked, and if it did, how to un-work it. How to float color and just let it go or control it. How to create a faded soft look and yet keep it interesting with hard and soft edges. I used Jim Kosvanec's method of brushwork on the fabric, and tried to make everything look like "I meant to do that." Not a single boring circle, square or equilateral triangle in sight!

This was difficult and I sure hope nobody asks me to do it again.

Alice,

The quilt painting is absolutely beautiful.  How you managed to make it look soft and fluffy like a quilt is beyond me.

I am just in awe of it.

Thanks, Nolan, Mea, and Dennis!

Patience is persistence and pressure put together

I didn't read that, I just made that up.

To make it fluffy, I used the #2 Fritch Srubber brush from Cheap Joes to bring soft edges back and always tried to go around the bumps, following the valleys, not go over them.
