These photos were taken while we were up in Placencia, Belize the other month. A tiny gallery called Art 'n Soul, and a small 'On the Grass' display by the thoroughfare.

Most of the artists there paint with acrylics 98-99% ! Oils are just not available, but I did find one w/c artist who was too shy to let me photograph her or her works. She really was quite good. Ah well, that's how it goes.

Here's a smattering of some of the works I saw. Enjoy!

:thankyou:  for posting Val.  It all looks so interesting and lovely to see other artists' works. I wonder why there doesn't seem to be many watercolourists?  It may be because people deem watercolour too difficult or not as vibrant as acrylics/oils for when I started out and was literally thrown into watercolour, I was kind of upset for I thought that watercolour was dull and wishy, washy and it is anything but that.  So there is that misconception out there about watercolour for sure.  Anyway, it was interesting viewing what others are doing.  Thanks again.

Val, these are all bright, colorful and large.  It is interesting that the art of a region always seems to reflect the feeling of the culture.  Thanks for sharing!

Natalie, it was cram packed! Space was tighter than an overstuffed taco!

Patricia, even the resident artists have a difficult time accessing supplies. For whatever reason, acrylic is the easiest to come by in Belize.

Lynne, you are so right about the art reflecting the culture. The Belizian people are just pure delight. Especially if you get out into the small Mayan villages. They just love to share their history, art, and whatever else they have...which for most isn't much. Beautiful people.
Cheers, Val

I love the name too.  O0

You're welcome Sherri. I hadn't found the local artisans of Utila & Roatan before I had to leave, but I'll be looking for them when I go back...  :detective:   I just love discovering new artists and their works! It's such fun to share ideas and dreams......  :cloud9:

That is a great display, thanks for sharing Val, and I agree with Nolan about the business slant of things you would make a fantastic crazy art supply lady.  :2funny:

 Crazy art supply lady?  >:( Well......actually that may be an apt description!  :2funny:     I think when we leave the Bay Islands of Honduras after hurricane season, we may head a bit further east and south to the San Blas Islands and down to Boca del Toro, Panama for the following hurricane season. I'm sure they're in need of a crazy 'paintingbasket art supply lady!   :2funny:
