Val your work is great just go for it and believe in yourself. FAA is free unless you want a your own webpage to go with it($30 a year) then everything you put on FAA automatically goes onto your webpage, which for me is great as I have been trying to get one together for a few months with weebly but me being me freaks out when I have to worry about setting things up like shipping prices which is hard when living where I do I have to rely on my local posty as courier services prices astronomical this far away from the city.

Nolan I am hanging out for any course you can design for selling or promoting my art. Maybe include how to blog because I have looked at trying that but it just seems way above me. ???

Zilpa I'm with you there.... I started trying to set up a page on Weebly... just couldn't get things to go where I wanted them.  :D   Web pages are definately not in my artform catalogue!  :2funny:   Will have a look at FAA, I understand your shipping problems believe you me!!!
Cheers, Val

I did my art site on Weebly and had no trouble.

Today I used Weebly again to set up one for my educational writings and couldn't get anything where I wanted it to go.

Maybe they "improved" the site!!!!

I have bitten the bullet and launched my weebly page as well. I think I am getting the hang of that one and was also able to add my FAA page to that as well. I have not started blogging yet one step at a time, besides I have to save time for painting  :2funny:  I have really stepped out of my comfort zone and signed up with twitter too. So here it is my web page   www.zilpavandergragt-artstudio.com

my twitter details  https://twitter.com/artist_zilpa

I know absolutely nothing about twitter I am like a fish out of water but the bipolar in me is telling me to go for it, so here goes nothing.

Zilpa,

I just tweeted you.  I, too, don't understand Twitter at all.

Twitter is great for quick updates, eg. you should be able to set your website to send out a tweet every time you add a new post to the site. That way your followers can get updates about new paintings you have completed or new exhibits you are planning, etc. Think of it as a text message on your phone O0

If anyone has any success on the web, I'd love to hear about it. I've been on FineArtAmerica for several years now and I've only sold a couple of prints. I've sold some ACEOs and 1 11"X14" painting on Etsy. I've tried Weebly, OpenSky, ArtPal, ArtFire and others with no success.

Maybe my work isn't good enough. Maybe my prices are too high. Maybe I haven't worked it hard enough. I've tweeted and blogged and FaceBooked till my fingers hurt and I'm not getting anywhere. Maybe I gave up too soon.

I've done contests for free portraits. The last one got me one commission, but I have to paint a freebie. I do a little better on the local level. Marketing to friends and coworkers. My doctor commissioned me to paint his family portrait, and my vet commissioned me to paint his dogs. I'm working on one now for one of the managers at work. Another person at work is talking like she'll want one, but so far it's just talk. All I know is marketing is hard work no matter how you do it. I've hung pictures in the vets office and people like them and ask for my phone number but I get no calls.

Maybe we can use this forum to brainstorm and support each other in marketing endeavors. I'd love to hear any ideas you may have.

Oh, I forgot, I had my own website for a year and I was unable to get a good spot on the search engines. Seems all good keywords for art have already been used. I never got any traffic to my site.

Nolan and Dennis did a great job of getting this site up and running. If I'm not mistaken, it was fairly new when I first signed up. Nolan and Dennis have a lot of expertise to offer that I don't have. I wish I could think of something to do that everyone else isn't already doing.

At any rate, sorry to be so long-winded. This marketing thing just has me stumped.
