Couldn't find any styrofoam so far, and as I was sitting at my table waiting for the live rose drawing lesson this morning (nz time  :D) I looked at the box my large tube of titanium white oil colour came in and thought to myself I should show my husband that because it would be an idea size for the wood I am hoping he will turn into a pencil holder.  Then I had an

I grabbed my craft knife and began cutting little bits out of it and look what I came up with  ;D  :2funny:

The cheapest pencil holder, and it works great  :yippee:  :yippee: :twothumbs:

An other great idea,  :heeha: Thanks Lisa for showing :flowers: ..I do have two of those big tubes in my drawer too, so plenty of materials to make some nice pencilholders, and I can make one for my artroom and one for downstairs where I keep my drawingstuff  :yippee:

Very neat Lisa, I wonder if Wal-mart will take back my 'slightly dented' styrofoam?   :2funny:

if the box pencil holders get to moving around, you could fill them with pebbles or sand to weight it down a bit.   :D

I think your foam will last a lot longer  ;D I am still hoping my husband will make me one but with how long it takes him to do anything I thought this would do in the meantime (do you think it would last a couple of years??)  :2funny:

That's a great  hadn't thought of that

Hum Lisa, maybe   :-\

BTW, I would put those pebbles or sand in a zip lock bag then into the box, just to be neater

I used a piece of packing foam from the box my new computer came in and just pressed the pencils onto it.  I threw the rest away not thinking that I would have more drawing pencils!  Photo in my gallery 12-8-13.  Don't spend, recycle!  :)

Very interesting! It makes artists' stuff organized. I love the way the pencils are organize. :)

When I first saw the organizer in the video, I made one out of some spare wood I had lying around - I made 2 each holding 6 pencils.  I soon realised they were clunky and the grooves too close together so decided, when I found another piece of wood, I would make another.

As it turned out, I had a spare piece of balsa wood in my study (35mm x 30mm x 230mm long) - so I used this to made an organizer capable of holding 10 pencils (or pens!)

The balsa, being very light, means I can easily add it to my 'kit' when I go for treatment in hospital and the balsa is also a reasonably good non-slip wood, so ideal for those shiny, slippery, hospital bed tables!!!

The grooves aren't the cleanest (balsa being so soft to work with doesn't really lend itself to being made smooth in grooves, but has turned out to be ideal for me at present - even thinking of making a wider one (maybe 60 or 70mm deep) for use with pastels (but I think for that it would definately need to be sealed with some sealer to stop the pastel dust getting into the wood.
