During class I noticed Nolan's pencil organizer, he had mentioned it once, but I never knew how to make it.   ::)   His is made of wood I believe.  I have no one here to make a wooden one for me, so I figured an easy way that I could make my own.   :heeha:

I purchased an inexpensive (about $2) piece of Styrofoam just the exact size I needed.    ;D

Then I measured off spaces for all my pencils (think it is about 3/4" between pencils) and slit the wrapping at the edge of one side, just a bit, for each individual pencil slot.  Then all I needed to do was hold a pencil to the slit and wiggle it up and down to create a grove for the pencil to sit in.  That compressed the Styrofoam enough to hold the pencil without making any mess by cutting it.  I used masking tape and permanent marker to label the slots.  I place it on a cloth to keep the pencils from sliding out.  You can also put it on a cardboard to move it.  The whole process took about 15 minutes and it works wonderfully!   Or as Nolan says "easy piesy"  :yippee: :yippee:

Great idea. Seems like it would work with paint brushes as well.

Sue, your pencil organizer looks great and the most important thing is that it works. Good job,  Patricia

Thanks for the positive response.  Got to tell you I was hesitant to share this, thought you might all figure it was boring, but glad I did   ;)

I am glad too that you did share this. And not boring at all, it is just great, written very clear and I want to make one for myself too...have to go and look if I can find some styrofoam myself. Thank you so much for this awesome little tutorial

Crafts stores or floral supply places, or WalMart if you have one would be where to look.

Glad you like it, hope it helps you.

:2funny: I just looked at the photo a little closer....I allready have some of that...in my kitchen :idiot2: I bought it two years ago because I wanted to make a Christmaspiece, but never used it, I made a hanging piece. My Dh just asked me a few weeks ago what I planned to do with it...now I know  :heeha: :smitten: :yippee:
