Here's my rocks.

It was a lot of fun to see the rocks take shape.

Thanks everyone! I'm going for the hatching now. I don't have a very steady hand, and lines are not my forte, so I'll see how it goes.

Brilliant work so far Aaron  O0 I think part of the attraction of cross hatching is you don't have to necessarily make perfect or straight lines. They should contour to what you are drawing. I most definately do not have a steady hand most times. I'm great when it comes to wibbly-wobbly ones though, even if I do say so myself!  ;D

Thanks, Val! It's good to know that I don't need a steady hand to be a master artist. 8)

OK, so here are my hatched drawings.

I didn't think I would like cross hatching, and it turned out to be true. I started, and wasn't having fun, so I just sorta winged it and did a sloppy job.:uglystupid2: Please don't chew me out too hard......I'll try not to do it again......I promise. :)

It turns out it isn't my favourite technique either  ::)

I did quite like the scumbling though.  Your shadows are way better than mine.

Aaron,

I think you did a much neater job than I did.  My hatches were not nearly as straight as yours.

your hatching is just fine Aaron
Hatching takes practice to get the feel for it, but once you do it is great.
I also didn't like it initially, but persisted until I got the feel. Since then I find that I am able to use it to draw all sorts of textures. For example, take a look at the ring this dog is chewing. I was able to hatch it in a few mnutes. If I had to shade it, it would have taken ages :
