 :thankyou: Didwaud and  :thankyou: Val.

Up early this morning (damn insomnia) doing some tweaking - now the gallery includes sizing for all The Nature Series captioning.

Glad I am getting such a good reaction both here and from my Facebook friends.

Batman,
Congratulations on your live site!  Love the paintings, especially the 'Origami Crane in Sunset' (Crane nut that I am)  O0

One suggestion, if I may, I don't know about costs of websites and all, but if there is any way you could allow a person to click on a painting and have it enlarged for their viewing, I think it would be helpful.  Old eyes like mine need that sort of thing  ;)

Great Job on the site design and of course on your beautiful paintings  :smitten:

:thankyou: MSWCrane - being a newbie with the tool the host provides I haven't worked out that ability. You'll note the Menu lists "Galleries" - I intend to create a second gallery with my other original Acrylics work, so you'd be able to view them much like "The Nature Series" one.
:thankyou: jennylynn - a book I have called "Starving to Successful" recommends any artist wanting to "make it" should write themselves an Artist's Statement. I thought the home page was as good a place as any to have it.
:thankyou: nolan - coming from a true Web designer, that is a real compliment to an absolute amateur. I must admit the tools my host provides access to as part of the package(iPage) provide make it pretty much a drag and drop, no HTML, PHP etc job though. Websites for dummies. :2funny: It's called Weebly Drag and Drop Builder. Unfortunately at this stage, it's all static content, not database driven, so each image means hand editing, but it's a starting point. Unfortunately, as part of the package you only get the basic package which only allows 6 pages all up. The premium costs an extra $300 which gives unlimited pages, but still being between jobs I can't afford it.

Thanks for viewing and the encouragement.

Hi all

Now that I have the sample painting hanging in the doctor's surgery I've added my other gallery (the girls in the office complained about not being able to see them bigger on the front page so I got on my bum and added it.)

Also will be changing the front page to display "Latest additions, rather than just a random selection."

Onto more important news, I found out that after it was hung yesterday, the doc had 10 patients come into the surgery and 5 or 6 commented on it and one even asked whether I was selling!!! Onward and upwards. Hopefully.

if they had to ask if you were selling, then it means they can't see your price tag / contact details card :knuppel2: :knuppel2: :knuppel2:

Hmm,

I didn't put a price on the card, but I did put the website direct them to the website to contact me. To be honest at this point I was wanting traffic to the site and haven't set concrete prices yet.

However, here is what I have come up with for my standard canvas sizes:

406 x 508mm    - $350
508 x 609mm    - $550
508 x 762mm    - $700
609 x 762mm    - $800
762 x 762mm    - $1000

What do people think about those prices? Of course the final price would be negotiable on a case by case basis . Multiple purchase would attract a discount for example.

Batman.

609 x 762
762 x 762
1000

I don't know what art work goes for where you live, but those prices sound reasonable for where I live.  Your works are good, and since they are thematic, they would more likely be collectible.

Good luck!!

Thanks for that bit of feedback Mea. That's two people who have told me they are reasonable... One here and one not.

I set my prices not just on the size, but also the time taken. A textured buffalo for example that can take around 15 hours to complete cannot sell for the same price as an abstract that has only taken an hour to paint.
You have to take your time into account as well.

If it is a series like this then each size should be priced roughly the same, eg. if I do a series of big 5 then the prices of those paintings will be the same as they form a set and will generally take equally long to paint anyway as they are in the same style

Thanks Nolan

That's kind of the advice that I got from the book I read (except for the hours.)

However it is kind of natural that a series of similar paintings would probably take a similar time to do.

And consistency was the drive behind the same pricing for the same sized item.

However I understand what you mean about the amount of time needs to be taken to account. My realistic rose DVD remains in my lounge. Watched 3 times start to finish and a paintbrush hasn't gone remotely close to the canvas...

Thanks MSWcrane,

Onto some more news on the site front:

1. I've updated all the images for The Nature Series to actually have individual Titles rather than just being numbered.

And more excitingly:
2. My blog is live!!!
