Thanks, Danielle.  I will do that scene again some day once I have more experience.

Well done Mea!! Keep good faith in you talent! Sometimes i get lost while drawing and the end result, like June 2014 clouds, turn out to be a mess....i realy dont like to struggle with any thing in life, but i am getting better. Drawing teaches me to calm down and accept my booo booos. The best sinario for me is to draw perfect from the start but that has never happend so i just go along an SMILE!!!  Have a great weeken and keep going!!! I do get my strength from all you artist that started about the same time as me!!! Xxxx

Mariep,

I am still in a state of awe that I am actually drawing now.  NEVER was able to do it before I found PB.  I am totally certain that it is my late mother guiding my hand.  Then the positive comments and constructive suggestions from you folks that make me want to get better and better.

Bless you, all.

It's been about a year and a half since I did the Let's Draw class so I went back tonight and looked at some of my work.

I decided to retry the coffee cup, but did it free hand this time and without the cross-hatching.

Now that I see the scanned version I see that it is not as symmetrical as it could have been.  I have gotten better at making the brim rounder around the sides, rather than coming to a point.

My sense of shading is definitely getting better - I am no longer afraid of the dark.

Also, I finally realized that just the tiniest tweak can really make a difference in the way things look.

What else still needs improvement?

I revisited another Let's Draw lesson and tried the Scumbled Fish.  This time I did it free hand and I am not quite happy with the shape.

Where did I go wrong?

great job Mea

The cup itself looks great, it is the shadow that need adjusting - the shadow is darker against the object, then shades lighter away from it O0

Fish - The shape is fine as you get all sort of different shaped fish. Just the edges of the fins - using a 2H or H show where the fin ends. If you can't see the end, the lines appear to be separate which in turn makes it look like hair.

You can see this effect nicely by looking at the tow top back fins. They are edged and looks like fins. The rest are not edged and look like hair. Amazing how a small edge can change the appearance so dramatically O0

Thanks, Nolan.

I see what you mean about the shadows.  It did look darker, though, on the original.  Wasn't a good scan.

I see what you mean on the fish fins.  I'll do some fin practice.

Slow, but steady - I'll keep drawing.

:heeha: Good on you Mea! What a difference on the mug from your first one!

I just might have another go at my mug...I think I'll use my new mug this time...the shape is a bit easier!     ;D
Cheers, Val
