Unfortunately TIME marches on - sometime too quickly.
Our original intention was to give the Watercolour Lessons for a year only, and look what happened - it has been almost 2 years now.

There will be 4 more Lessons this month of November (86 Lessons in total) and then for the next 2 Lessons in December will be a combination of Watercolours and Pastels as a preliminary introduction to painting with Pastels.

As from the first Monday of January 2014 (New Zealand Time) I will begin a new Teaching Series using the soft pastels (Chalk) - not Oil pastels. The series will start with the assumption that no one has ever picked up a pastel stick before. In other words, from absolute beginner to advanced.

I will soon post a List of Suggested Materials. We will start with the minimum of materials and then slowly build up as we progress. I will also give some safety precautions for those who possibly are a bit wary about the dust problem. Taking the right precautions, anyone should be able to take part. I personally have not had any problem painting with pastels.

Pastels is an exciting and quite a forgiving medium. Watercolours and Pastels actually go well together and during the year we will periodically combine them.

I would also like to take this opportunity of thanking all who participated, and who still are, in the Watercolour classes over the last 2 years. With a humble heart I say, very sincerely, that I am very proud of the quality of work produced. Many started from absolute scratch and are now producing high quality work
I have been particularly impressed with the loyalty of so many of the Members  :flowers:

Lastly, my wish is that most of you will join me next year, and in so doing progress even further in the arts. I have done my best to not keep any of my "secrets", knowledge and experience from you at all and I will be operating the same way in the coming year.

When necessary I will add other information to this thread.

Dear Dennis and Nolan, I also want to thank you for all that I have learned. Watercolor was a total mystery to me. I had never tried them. I had artist tell me that you do not want to work in watercolor. I am SOOO glad I did not pay attention to them. Because they do not know what they are talking about. I have learned so much Dennis.
And yes I will be here next year trucking right a long with you.  :2funny:  Plus I have met some really nice people on here, who also encourage me.

Thank you Dennis and Nolan for the great lessons I had since spring in watercolor and drawing. I learn so much in this short time. For the moment I will not be able to take the pastel classes. I am still learning watercolor and drawing. I am just at the begining on those two medium, and I feel overwhelmed by taking on another art form. I have to go trough all 80+ lessons on watercolor, and I have to learn so much in drawing. I'll be here, in touch with everyone and when I feel confident to aproach the pastels I will. Thank you again for the great classes you have put together. Doina

Dennis and Nolan, it is with a heavy heart that I see the watercolour lessons coming to a close as I felt that I was just getting into them. However, life is about change and to learn other mediums signifies growth for me.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank you both so very much for putting on an excellent programme and for taking me by the hand and leading the way.  I appreciate your efforts more than you could ever imagine. Your lessons have been for me, like a family 'get together' with the human touch of hearing Nolan prompt you Dennis, when some name eludes you and then bringing you coffee, reminding you of things, just made me feel as though I was sitting right there next to you instead of watching the lessons on the video being recorded.  What a priceless experience.  I am looking forward to joining you in the New Year and my prayer is that the Lord 'will throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it' .  With a grateful heart, I say "thank you" again.  Patricia

So very well said Patricia.  Yes, there are those wonderful moments between father and son that is part of the absolute charm of Nolan and Dennis.  It has always been more than the knowledge they impart.  So, I suspect the charm will continue into Pastels and hopefully once in a while into oils (eh Nolan?).  Glad you are always thinking ahead about what we need to learn

Hi PB-ers(new and old faces)...I clicked to check the site and I saw this. Woot! Excited and looking forward to this! Been a while since I held pencil or brush. But lately, I have this urge in me to paint. I am easing to pick up where I left off and this got my motivation starting again.

You and Nolan are such great mentors in art as well as in generosity  :smitten:

Ooooo this sounds very exciting Dennis,  :yippee: I do not have the first idea about pastels so it will be great to be here at the very beginning.

Could you please let us know what equipment we will need asap please as they may make good Christmas gifts.  I have had a quick look around and like watercolour there seems to be a vast array of different quality/makes of pastels and weights and colours of paper so your guidance would be much appreciated before we make some expensive mistakes.   :thankyou:

I would also like to thank you for all you help, guidance and encouragement over the last few months, I was a complete beginner at watercolour painting (well any painting actually) and even though I am still no expert and some of my paintings look like they've been done by a 6 year old  I am certainly improving but more importantly I absolutely love it.  So  :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: Dennis   :1hug: and I can't wait to begin painting with pastels in January.  :yippee: :yippee:

Dear Dennis;

Thank you!!!!!   I was very disappointed when I had only been with PB for a few months and
found out the live oil classes were put on hold.   I had NO intention of taking any other medium but, my disappointment soon dissipated once I started your live watercolour classes. I am  now ready to try pastels and drawing classes in the New Year.  This year has been a great intro and window to the possibilities in ART.   :thankyou:         I am looking forward to 2014 as a year of fun and learning!!!
May lynn
