I have just set up a facebook page to promote my art. I have not been brave enough to start a web page yet, but thought this was a good place to start. Feel free to check it out. I hope I have not broken any rules in posting this. If I have I apologize up front and wont be offended if you remove it Nolan.

Great to see all your work together Zilpa, but are you aware of the fact that you gave facebook all the rights of the photo's of your work, that they may use those photo's even in advertisements, without mentioning your page?

As the facebook terms say: "you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook (IP License). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it."

Thank you for your reply Germa. I have watermarked the work I posted but I am not too bothered about all that. My main aim is to share my work with whoever wants to look at it. There are hundreds of other artists selling their work through facebook so I thought why not at least show off a bit and have some fun doing it.

I have been asked to post some of my works on fb so friends and family could see what I'm doing. Just not comfortable with allowing someone to use my work without my knowledge.

Hope it works out well for you Zilpa.  O0

I have been using facebook for years to keep up with my cousins in the Netherlands and have never had a problem. I think without sharing my work online I would not be doing it at all but then that is me being bi=polar. I figure if someone wants to copy my work to paint good luck to them no two people can produce the same work identically. I have watermarks on my work now but I have only started doing that since having the page just for my art. I might be wrong but I don't see any difference in sharing it anywhere on line. If someone wants to use it they will. At my age I am not looking at making a living out of it, if I sell one here and there which I have twice now I am quiet happy. What is the difference between me posting my stuff on facebook and PB or AT posting my work on their facebook page?

You could sue us, you can't sue facebook.
Over here, the photo's are still yours, on facebook, they aren't.
On the world wide web, your photo's are protected by copyright law, on facebook, you give every  kind of copyright to facebook AND facebook can give or sell the copyright to any company.
Not to try to paint the same thing, just to use the photo, as is, in any advertisement to earn good money with it.

In fact, it's a principal matter to me. ;)

:thankyou: Nolan. I am glad you liked it. I can actually now see hoe many people visit. That makes it even more exiting.

I have a Facebook page and I post my images on Facebook often. I'm not worried about someone copying. What good is it to create art and hide it in my home? I want to show it off to anyone who wants to see it. That's what it's for. It's my attempt to bring some more beauty into the world. I also have a webpage.

It was very easy to set up. I used a template from the site. If anyone wants information about creating your own site, just send me a private message and I'll be happy to help.

Hi Georgie both your web page and facebook page are great. I have not plucked up the courage to do a web page yet, I am not sure I have the drive to keep doing the work to upkeep a web page. I am toying with the idea though. My main problem is writing about myself and all the blurb that is expected on a web page. That is really the only thing stopping me from doing it. I don't have a problem showing off my work just putting it into words.

Maybe we should start a topic where people can help each other with artist's statements and so forth. That's a problem for me as well.
