I would like to get suggestions on what to purchase in the way of a good desk lamp.
I think it is time for me to invest in a desk light that will gives me a better representation
of the colours on my  pallet/painting.   I have struggled with this too long.
Suggestion and experiences PLEASE!!!!!    I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

Hi May Lynn, I might suggest an Ott Liight.  It is especially good for night painting.  They are rather expensive though.  Several artists friends of mine use them and love them.  They do set on a desk though and can't be attached to an easel.

Rather than getting a desk lamp, I got a similar one that is floor standing but adjustable just like the desk ones. Lots more flexibility...

I will have the chance to achieve perfection, when and only when I can remember the future.

Thanks all, for your suggestions.
Lynn p, I am a night hawk, my head hits the pillow around 2 to 2:30 am PST so I need all the direct
light I can get. I have heard of the Ott light I going to check them out. Tks.
InnBatman, I am going to look at both the floor & desk model as your suggestion. Tks.
Germa , I do own 3 or 4 easels that I seldom use, because I am left handed I prefer an elevated home made rotating easel set on my desk.  I find there is less chance of my hand  dragging over any just painted surfaces.  Tks.
Denise 320, Thanks for the thread I am on my way over there now. Tks.
I 'll continue my research next week when I get to a larger city approx.. 100 km away.
Thank You all.

Take a look at joannfabrics.ca (Canadian site). They have quite often sales on Ott lights. If not on sale, you can apply one of their 40% or 50% off coupons toward the lamp. Be sure you do not buy from the American site -joann fabrics.com- the postage is horrendeous if you buy from there. Doina

I just got an e-mail from Joann fabrics with sales on OTTlight. I searched the canadian site and has the same sale. Is more than 50%off on floor and desk lamps. Here are the shipping informations for Canada:
http://www.joann.com/shipping-info.html

and here is the link on Joann site:

I hope I was able to help you. Doina

PS for the rest of the Canadian friends watch for good deals on watercolor paints and fine art supply. Here is the link

Dear Doina;
Thank you for you suggestion of Joann's.  I looked at the website's store locator and
found that there is No Joann's on or near Vancouver Island.   I would have to take a long
ferry ride to Seattle and also acquire a passport to cross the Canadian/US border. If I order direct from Joann's in Washington State.  I would be hit with huge shipping costs and export duties.
I did travel the 200 Km round trip to Michael's, in Nanaimo today  and purchased a
table model Ottlite, it works great.  I have search Amazon.ca and found a V92WG2 floor
model wheeled base lamp as suggested by InnBatman.   I did find it confusing as they were posting three
different prices. 1. 99.00  2. 149.00  and 3. 179.00.  All were with free shipping.  I am going to take my chances with Amazon and order the floor model later this week.  They do say it could take up to 4 week to arrive.     Thank you all!!!

Well I've purchased my ott lite desk lamp at a local store and I love it!!!  I also order the ott lite floor lamp with
wheeled base but, I had to order it through Amazon.ca and it is being shipped from the US.   It's on it's way but, I have no idea how long it will take or if I will be charged custom, tax or duty.  Only time will tell.
I'll keep you posted.

I would also like to know about lighting in my study/studio. I have a major problem with not enough light and what I've got is more yellowish.

Dennis or Nolan anything you can recommend here in SA?

Well the ott lite I order from amazon arrived this morning, No shipping charge, no duty, and no sales tax.
It came via UPS  right to my rural property door; weight 10 lbs.  It is the floor model on wheel base.
I am very happy with the service, cost 149.00 Cnd.   I am sad though because it's is my Christmas present from my husband therefore, I am not allowed to unwrap it or take it out of the box until Dec. 25.  :banghead:   I hope I can last that long.
