Sherri,

Looking forward to seeing what you scratch out.  You do so well in other media; bet you'll do well on this, too.

Scratchboard has just been introduced into our University of the 3rd Age drawing classes this year - it initially seems to have polarised those taking the course. The 'purists' have looked at it and said 'well, nice - sort of' whilst others are looking at it as another technique to try and master in their drawings.

As to availability (question asked earlier) - in Melbourne (Oz) Scratch Art produce sheets (which, incidentally are made in the USA) of 10 8 1/2" x 11" sheets in a pack.  Cost in our area is around $20 or $2 a sheet (The Art Shop if any in Melbourne know of it).  The nibs are around $2.50 each and need a nib holder (sort of like the old style plastic holders we used in primary schools to hold ink writing nibs).

I'm looking forward to giving it a go as it looks like it can be an unforgiving exercise!

I use the ampersand boards, more expensive but worth it.

I'm with you Zilpa. They are the only ones I've found so far that I like.   O0   Of course I haven't found any other actual 'boards'.  ::)
Cheers, Val

Zilpa and Nancy....great pictures!  They are wonderful.
When I needed something else to do a few years ago, I did some metal scraping...a wolf and an owl.  It was great fun, so I can see how you would enjoy this.
Your pictures are terrific.
