  Well done Kelley. The color saturation is not so much a problem as the tonal ranges that should be there in a painting. It is the tonal ranges that make a painting irrespective of the color. Now that is saying it in two different ways. To me you have a good feel for the tonal ranges here and they work well together.   I like the fishermen.

That means a lot coming from you Dennis! Thank you, sir.  I have a couple of other paintings I am eager to start now unless you want to make a March/April challenge.  I feel Maggie did quite an exceptional job on this project.. especially in such a short amount of time. I have to learn to paint quicker or change my medium to acrylic.  I just can't get the paint to dry quick enough.  I am grateful for your prompting and patience.

Both oils and acrylics have their pros and cons. Oils take longer to dry than acrylics and on the other hand acrylics dry very quickly, specially in hot dry weather. With oils you can use mediums such as Liquin to make the paint dry faster and with acrylics you can use an extender (gel or in liquid form) to keep the acrylics moist a bit longer to do better blending.

I painted for years just in acrylics before going over to oils. Those days I did not know about extenders so I had to work very fast to be able get the blending as I wanted it to be. The result is that I can finish a painting in double quick time - to the envy of my students

I've been wanting to travel with my easel.  I've only done it once so I invested a little in small tubes of acrylic paint so that it will be dry enough as not to transfer to my car seat.  I also feel safer around kids with the paints (I believe they are beyond the age of putting it in their mouths, but I wouldn't put it past a teenager to put a brush in his/her mouth).

Thank you kindly Nolan. That's a great compliment.  Do you have any recommendations or should I leave it and move on?

Kelley, I think you can call it a day on this one. Only thing I can see is that you haven't put the shadows of the two fishermen in.

Hey Kelley.. Unfortunately due to the 'net' I can't see your painting but it sounds marvellous. Can't wait to see it, I've spoiled mine irrevocably so am starting again. I think I'll revert back to w/c...tried using the acrylics I have...Oyve!
Cheers, Val
