I am waaaay behind in the reading of the all the posts and have just read this post.  Gosh, I am almost in tears too.  Val and Lillian, you have written so eloquently, what is in our hearts. Many is the time that I felt like giving up, thinking I am not good enough and when I have been feeling "down" you were there to pick me up and help me along with your encouragement and support which means such a lot and I think I speak for everyone. So  :flowers: :flowers:  to you for being there for all of us and you are both such an asset to the Paint Basket and indeed precious to us too.  Thank you so very much.  Patricia

Patricia, you're way behind in reading all the posts?  Don't feel bad about that.   :1hug:

It's hard to comment on all the posts.  There is life outside Paintbasket!  We have to set priorities and we have to trust that all our friends here understand.

I'm about to get behinder in getting around to commenting.  I'm starting a semester at the college, taking two courses.  It's going to be a challenge for this old girl, but I know I will enjoy it and learn a lot.  I tend to ignore friends and family and the Paintbasket forum and that makes me feel kind of selfish and I'm not sure if college is making me a better artist.  I do know that since i joined paintbasket, i've become a better artist.  :yippee:

It's hard to resist whizzing by and not expressing my delight with all the paintings and drawings I see.  I love to take time to look at member galleries and seeing the progress and come back to a post to cheer folks on.

I'll be lurking around, peeking in on what you're doing and cheering for you.   :cheering:

Patricia, there will always be someone here to pick you up when you feel down!  Keep up the good work.   :flowers: :1hug:

Patricia, I wish I could read them all, but who has the time.  :-\   Some days I come in and get caught up in reading the posts and can spend 2-3 hours here :o   One can't do that every day, that is time I could have spent  :painting:  but still its good to catch up on occasion :)

Thanks so much Lillian for the re-assurance.  I wish you well with the two College Courses.  I often thought of doing something like that too but with my life being so busy, I don't think I could handle it for I can't even catch up with the Paint Basket's lessons which I have missed.

Yes, Sue, I wish I could read all the posts and comment for I feel that someone may just need a word of encouragement to uplift them if they are feeling down ... much like other members have encouraged me but as I said, at the moment my life is pretty hectic.  Nevertheless, I will do what I can in the spare time I have.

I just read this and I must say it in itself is inspiring to this newbie. To try something that is so outside my comfort zone and then to put it out among all this wonderful work here is a little nerve racking to say the least. But thats why I do it. I want to see what you see, I want to be able to improve with each and every stroke I make. I have only been here a short time but I know its the place for me to be. I dont visit any other art sites, this one is my online home. And I look forward to seeing everyones work and showing mine no matter how bad I think I did on it or how good, there is always someone out there with good advice and inspiration to be even better. <3

Glenda, you inspire with your enthusiasm, courage, and determination. The ability to be great is within you...it's just a bit timid about coming out  ;)   Just wait and see, it won't be long and you'll blow the doors off!  :heeha:    ;D

I am tucking back in as it were to the focus on my art. I needed a bit of bucking up today so I came to the motivation section for a bit of inspiration. I have read a number of the other threads and came across this one that I had started a while ago. It definately hit a cord with me and started me thinking again. Plus I pulled out a couple of quotes I used to keep stuck on my wall. I thought I'd share them with you.

"Learn the rules like a pro,
so you can break them like an artist"
- Pablo Picasso

Perfect description of our Clark boys in my book.

This next one has helped push me through when it seemed the world just didn't want to know, or... I allowed someone's opinion to overtake my inner voice. Never let someone else silence your inner voice, we are all capable of doing great things. Sometimes it is hard to find that light at the end of the tunnel, but once you find that spark, focus on it, don't waver, just keep moving forward. You already are so much better than you think.  O0

"Don't think about making art,
just get it done.
Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad,
whether they love it or hate it.
While they are deciding,
make even more art."

-Andy Warhol

Thanks, Val. And may I say that YOU are a great motivator!  :smitten:

It has been such a help to have this safe, encouraging place to help me learn and grow. I have been on other (writing) forums where things have gotten pretty nasty. I've rarely seen that happen here.

Wow Val, I have just spent 2 or 3 hours thinking about art. I have tidied up a bit, looked at a few things and come on here but not actually just got any done. Thanks for your words of wisdom and this timely and thought provoking quote.  :) :smitten: I think I will just go and "get it done"  O0 :thankyou:

So glad you pulled this thread up, Val - I didn't see it in 2013. I love what you've written - and I'm posting the Warhol quote near my painting table so I can read it daily. You are truly one of the most important muses in my art life - I value your advise, your insight, your caring and your sense of humor so much! Thanks for being you!!
Cheers,
Sharon
