Polliwag, you asked, "Do you agree with me on this little house?" I am assuming you are asking for a critic? I am not a professional by a loooooong shot, but I can give you my first impression.  I love the colors in this painting! There are two areas I see that you may be able to adjust to improve your painting. I think the perspective on the house is a little off.( Perspective is  always a little hard for me! :-\ ) The other thing I see is the perfectness of the tree.  Maybe, make it not so even? Once again, I am in the learning process, as well, so wait for the experts! Make sure to repost if you make adjustments! O0

Well, CB, you do agree with me on these two things.  I thought the house looked crooked and the tree exactly as you said too roundy moundy symetrical... I've got to go back and practice trees again.. It just wasn't working for me. I actually traced  this from a drawing from one of the art web sites or from a book.  I've had it for a while.  I don't know if it was actually that way or if I did something to it. So be it.. I thought it was a little off and looks like it's sinking or something.  I had trouble with the clouds, the mountains, the trees, the house, even the grass and the road.  I think I was just actually not into it that day... Plus, I thought someone might say the house is a little too close to the center.. I am either going to try to do it again or choose another landscape that is similar.  Thanks for your comment.  I didn't think anyone was going to... I guess I got the wording on that wrong too!    A big

CB, kept thinking about this drawing.. did a little investigating, and I found that it is from one of the tutorials.  I had printed it and traced it onto my paper; but by the time I decided to paint it, I forgot that it was from pb.
Therefore, I did not follow the directions and I didn't paint it as the tutorial shows.  The house looks the same to me though.  I think I will try it again after I study the instructions.  If at first you don't succeed...... :)

Sorry Dianne, I just found this post. Yes, I remember this introductory lesson....I haven't looked at this one for almost 2 yrs.  !  Time sure flies when you're having fun! I'm not sure if I ever tried this one. I'll have to go and have a look.  I remember I was terrified to even try it, it seemed a daunting task to me then. Those Clark boys have certainly brought me a long way!
Considering you painted it without the instructions I think you did quite well. The perspective is off a bit, but take heart...at least you can still recognize it for what it is! Better than mine at that stage.   ;D  Definately worth another go.   O0

Dianne, sorry I didn't comment on your painting earlier.  It was getting late when I was here last night and I had to sign out and get to bed.

This exercise must have been one produced by Nolan before I joined PB.  I haven't seen it painted by anyone until now.  Bravo for diving right in on the lessons.  I think you did well, seeing as you did it all on your own.

You are still new to the site and Nolan and Dennis' good teaching.  Be patient with yourself, never mind that your little house isn't in the right perspective, it's real cute!

You will be amazed how far you've come if you look back at your painting a year from now.

I can't help myself, I have to brag about the drawing course.  The course covers perspective and trees and so much more!

Having gone through those lessons, I well understand why the drawing course helps us paint.

Now if only I can apply what I've learned!!!

It is based on a video tutorial I did quite a few years ago. It is best to view it again. You can check the perspective of the house and the shape of the tree.

Thank you Val and Lillian.. I just really didn't think I was going to enjoy that one.. just couldn't get into it.. but after it was finished.. even though I knew it had a few probems.. I really do like it.. maybe the colors.  I think I will do it again.. I know I can do better.  .. and thanks, Dennis for  the video connection... when I looked around for the drawing, I found it in a tutorial, I think, with only some written instructions.  Now I can take a look at the whole thing and get a "better perspective" on the overall scene!

I think I'll go have a look as well. If I need a break from drawing this will make a nice fill in. Thanks Dianne.

Dianne--I just wanted to say that despite all these corrections you want to make, I really love this little painting.  It is charming and I agree with you that the simplicity of it and the colors are lovely.  Lynn

Thanks, lynn.. I'm anxious to do it again just to see if it will give me the same attachment or hopefully even better.  It is a nice setting, the little house all nestled in..
