Hi all

Loved this photo that my friend had taken so thought I'd give it a go with watercolour ...  the background seems far too fussy though, what do you think?

Hi Anita!  I'm trying to look at others' paintings to get that first impression that will hopefully help me to look at my ownpaintings  from a different viewpoint..Sometimes my mind doesn't process what my eye sees after looking at it for hours while painting it.  So I'm trying to figure it out by getting a fresh look at something new.
At any rate, I quickly noticed this yesterday or so, just viewing the small picture without enlarging it.  I was in a hurry so didn't stop to ponder it... and then here it is again today so thought I'd take a look.  I remember viewing the smaller size thinking it looked busy.  Now when I enlarge it and find that you mentioned the back ground looks busy, I tend to disagree somewhat.  I like the background.. perfect? I don't know; but what seems to be wrong to me is the peacock.  It looks a litte busy since it is small.  Seems like it would be better if it were less busy or the whole bird was much larger to make it stand out.  Does that make sense?  I guess the bird and the background do compete for interest, but being that the bird would be the focal pt., I think it just needs to stand out more.  Maybe a plain background would do the trick, but I really think the bird itself needs to stand out more. Maybe the colors are too much the same?? and maybe, just maybe you'll get a better comment from someone else. O0

I love your painting, Anita!       You have a nice touch.

I'm thinking that it's the blue in the rest of the picture that could be competing with the peacock.  I just put my hands over the blues on the sides and the bird looks more prominent.

I'll be looking in to seeing what the expert has to say.

Lillian, I think you are probably right!  If only I could speak  so intelligently in such few words!.  Anita, it is still a very nice painting.   O0

Thanks guys ... I think you are all right ... too much blue in the background.  I must remember to use my artistic licence to change the background to suit rather than copy the photo so much :-)
