Hi,

I'm new here and fairly new to the art world. I picked up a brush a few years ago and started painting. I dibbled casually with a brush for a while, but I'm beginning to get more serious. I am trying to market myself in hopes of selling some art someday. I'm sick to death of the corporate world, and I'm determined to find a way to stay off that track. I am currently unemployed.

I was happy to find this web site. I enjoy sharing tips and tricks and learning from other people. I don't know any other artists where I live, so the web is pretty much my only contact with the art world. I love helping and supporting others. It's a big world out there and it's hard to be seen on the web. It takes a lot of work and time, but I'm learning about search engine optimization and other tricks of the trade. I'll be happy to share any of my new found knowledge with anyone who is trying to sell art on the web. I'm not an expert by any means, but I'm constantly studying and learning. Can't wait to get back to painting!

If you'd like to see some samples of my work visit http://www.ArtByG.etsy.com. I haven't quite found my style, my favorite medium, or my niche, but I'm working on it.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here in the forums.  :painting:

Hi Georgie, :bigwelcome: to the site, glad you found us.

I really like your paintings, post some on the gallery for a bit more exposure.

How well has selling on Etsy worked for you and how long have you been selling there?

PS - I am going to do a series on art marketing here over the coming months starting with a personal interview by one of Facebook's top marketing experts, so keep your eyes peeled for that one O0

Selling on Etsy has been very slow to nothing. I've been there over a year I think, but I've just now started trying to market heavily. Ask me that question again later on. Maybe I will be able to give you a more meaningful answer. I'm FaceBooking, Twittering, Sqidooing, blogging, and trying to get my links on as many sites and blogs as I can. I'm learning as I go. Maybe I can contribute some meaningful info as to what works and what doesn't I go along.

I will certainly be interested in your series about art marketing. I hope I don't get too busy and forget about it.

I will post something in the gallery as soon as I get a chance.

Thanks for the response to my post.

Thanks, Val. I look forward to getting to know you. I'm still learning my way around the paint basket. Do you have work posted anywhere?

Nice gallery. I loved seeing your progressive drawings. The lion turned out very well. Your kitty looks a lot like my kitty. Looking at your drawings has given me the urge to pick up my pencils again. I haven't done anything with pencils in a while, so there's no telling what will happen. I'll post my progress as I go. I am so enjoying the interaction on this site. Thanks for sharing your work.

Hey Georgie...Thanks for your comments, its been a bit too bouncy lately  :boat: to sketch so I'm just doing some practice exercises. I hope I'll still be able to draw on a stable surface after all this!   :2funny:
I am attempting my first portrait. It's of my great nephew (if in the end it doesn't look like him, they'll just have to find a kid that looks like my portrait and adopt him!)  ;D
Cheers, Val

That's a great solution, Val. It's a solution that I'm about to apply to a portrait that I am painting. Sometimes those darn paints just won't do what you want them to do.  :'(
