Wasn't going to but.
Been working about 2 hours couple days ago, then another 2 today and I think it's already done. It's of an old tree by a creek.
I will take a photo tomorrow. ..if I don't continue with it and mess it up.
Just thinking...you could have a painting that half looks like Gaughan, and another half of it looking like Rembrant.
But you don't want that....that is the trick and it's not easy. To make it all look compatable and unified as a whole. A balance of a "certain level" of realism-or non representational art. As long as it's balanced. Otherwise you start refining some area and it's looking more real...now you have to make the rest that way! Better to not get into that corner.
The moment you find yourself mostly satisfied with a painting and think you'll "just quickly" do this or that, that's the moment to stop completely. Take the painting off your easel and put it aside for at least 24 hours, then reassess whether it really needs that tweak.

we mix realism and representational all the time in our paintings - the realist goes at the focal point and the representational goes on the outsides of the canvas. That is the secret to artworks that get that Wow reaction O0
