hmmmm that is a hard one, did they give you an indication on why they said that? You should really ask to get clarity? What kind of painting are you mastering in?

Post some of your work, we can't comment if we haven't seen your work :)

Your physical brain is made up of 2 main lobes and they are interconnected.

I can't go into a long discussion here at the moment, but the left lobe is used for all your logical actions and decisions such as calculations, time keeping and many other such analytical activities.

Your right lobe is used for intuitive, subjective, creative, expressive, emotions, etc. That is why they said you must use your creative side (right brain) and forget the logical.

There is much, much more to this and the above is a very simplified explanation.

I hope this helps for the moment.

In support of Dennis' "spot on" description, I found  a really good book for me was Betty Edwards "drawing on the right side of the brain" She has both the book and a workbook. Check your local library if your interested  Another one I found very challenging was "the artist way" by Julia Cameron This book helped me get through a lot of the garbage inside of me that was getting in the way of my creative side. Enjoy the journey

I can certainly ditto what Dennis and Eftpower1 said...

Eftpower... did you also know that Julia Cameron brought out a follow up book on 'The Artists Way'... its called 'Walking In This World' - Practical strategies for creativity.  I also noticed last year sometime that she has a website 'The Artists Way'  http://www.artistsway.com/  and http://juliacameronlive.com/  ;)
