  • SMILE, It's a brand new day!
on: February 17, 2012, 04:47:16 AM
We just spent a lovely evening with dear friends that we hadn't seen for a couple of years. They are from South Africa, go figure!  ;D
Debbie was an art teacher (watercolourist/pastels) before taking up the cruising life. Lloyd told her what I've been up to so of course she had to see EVERYTHING I had done. After hours of discussion, here is her take on my work.
1) Must keep drawing: mustn't be afraid of going darker, suggested I should try starting with a bit darker pencil and progressing from there until I get used to adding the darks. Must continue with the portraits, try sketching more structures and landscapes. Whew....she's a slavedriver!
2) Absolutely must continue following Dennis's instruction. The improvement in the period of just a month or two is quite dramatic. AND she loved my cosmos. Went straight to the flowers, and then said...what happened in the corner?  :2funny: Explained the story and she said, never mind...it doesn't matter, you didn't set out to paint a corner...you painted flowers. I hadn't thought in those terms before.   :heeha:
Lots more discussion but these were the main points. What a lift I got, I appreciated this so much because I got counseled, berated, praised and lifted. Thought I had D & N speaking through a medium for a moment! Kept looking behind her to make sure, was waiting for the bat to come out!    ::)   :2funny:
Outside opinions can be such a help, especially when they know what they are talking about.  O0
PLUS...if I don't make her a print...she's going to steal my cosmos!  :2funny:  :2funny:  :2funny:
Cheers, Val

Val that is so awesome  :heeha: ...    See, we knew what you are capable of ... you just needed a little nudge from somewhere else  ... luckily the nudge didn't have to be that big...it might have pushed you overboard  :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:  :1hug:

Val,

Great advice, encouragement and compliments from your art teacher/friend.

Now you can go full speed ahead.   :run: :boat: :painting:

Thanks guys, it was a wonderful and  educational evening. Even the frightening bits!  ;D
I've never doubted that the colour wheel was the most important tool we can have ... now I'm trebly sure! (not sure that's a word, but when three people say it ... I must pay attention.)   :surrender:
All I know is I had better have more paintings and drawings done before Debs catches up with us in a couple of months!      :run:

Nolan, all Deb did was reinforce everything you and Dennis have taught here on PB. Just a bit more forcefully...  :knuppel2:   :2funny:
If you didn't have my undivided attention before .... you can bet you do now. Especially since there is another bat closer at hand!  :run:   :painting:
