Post your Mixed Media for January 2018 Challenge here.

1/ Post only one painting per person. Post only your finished painting. If you need help, post it in the encourager section.

2/  Thank you for your ongoing support of these challenges.

3/ Any mediums may be used. Must contain a minimum of 2 different mediums.
If you are unsure, PM me directly.

4/ When posting your entry, please list types of media (w/c, oil, acrylic, w/c pencil, inktense, ink, pastel...) used. Much appreciated as it may help someone with less experience.

5/HAVE FUN!!     :gl2:

Cheers, Val

This is my humble submission for the mixed media challenge.
This is done on a black mat board with acrylics and pastels.
Never done anything like this before and my creativity was challenged by this subject and I couldn’t do it better.
I really would love to see other submissions to this.

I think you did very well with it. Love the colours reflected in the water.
I am going to do this in pastel, can't decide if I should have a go on Black paper, or black tinted sandpaper. Not for the challenge but will post in my thread in the pastel encourager section.

What this photo is actually actually about is a boat done up with Christmas lights that toured along the coastline and lagoon as Santa's 'floating' sleigh. He magically appeared after the fireworks finished up. I managed this photo as he passed by PJ anchored out in the harbour. It was a moonless, starless night ,so the pitch black aided in hiding the boat. Was great fun to hear how excited all the kids were.

Thanks for the explanation, Val. What a surprising and pleasing experience to see a boat with this pretty Christmas light!
Will watch out for your pastel drawing!

Thanks, Teresa, Bill, Elisabeth, Patricia.
“Difficult” is maybe not what I thought. Since this is a mixed media challenge I had no other ideas how to create such a black background und what mediums to apply.
That’s why I would love to see the creativity of others who go for this.   :)

 Gita, you rendition of this “next-to-impossible” subject is amazing. Choosing to work on black mat board was the right move, it created a veritable background without unnecessary distortion. :smitten:

A formidable contender this month.
