Painted from a photograph taken by my friend. I see a few areas that could be better, (do You?) but overall I am pleased.

Nicely done Bill. The only thing I see missing at this point is a stay or two on the far side of the mast. You should be pleased

I'll let Val direct you on the technical stuff like stays and masts.  I will just say from a land-lubbers point of  view, this is a really nice scene.

Only concern is that the tree in the distance seems to be blown to strongly by the wind, as the flag does not seem to be blowing in the same direction as the trees.

Thanks everyone.
Missed that stay Val!
Good point Mea, I wasn't even thinking of wind direction when painting the trees.
I see a composition fault with the top of the cabin in line with the bank. I reckon there should have been a stretch of water there.
The main mast and little cross piece I muffed, that is why they are so thick. Must learn to have a steadier hand for those little details.
I would like to develop a more loose style like Straynative's watercolours but I suppose that will come with time.

As Val would probably tell you: Winds can be locally quite variable and technically it is possible that the flag is getting wind from one direction and the trees from another (sorry Mea Gumshoe!). I like the painting. Bill your composition sense is amazing. All those years of photography are standing you in good stead. Don't stop :painting:.

True enough Linley..... plus we often see trees which are permanently bent by the strong winds and never straighten even when no wind. So yes, it can make for some odd looking situations at times.  ;)

What a lovely painting, Bill. The softness evokes such calmness. :smitten:
