While I was painting this gal I was reminded of the days I was a professional dancer before my accident. How I would practice for hours at a time and take classes endlessly. It took me back to the days of being on stage and connecting with the audience and hearing the applause. I lived and breathed dance. It was my life! I don't paint many dancers because sometimes it hurts me to go back but when I saw this photo on google I wanted to paint her. She looked so strong standing there getting ready for that big show. I really got into this painting and had a great time painting her. I would love some comments and critiques.
She had some ribbing on her crinolines I tried to show I'm now sure they show up right.

I love this one Robyn! Yes I know all about the hours and hours of practice. I received my first toe shoes when I was ten. At the time students were supposed to be 12 yrs. of age before they were given the shoes. Mine were black satin.  :smitten: My instructor said she had to give them to me as she was afraid I'd break my toes dancing on the tips with no shoes.  ;D

Beautiful job on her crinoline.  O0
Cheers, Val

Thanks so much Val.. Oh yes I remember those days of the first toe shoes!!! I kept fussing with the crinoline so much that I thought I over did it in places.  I noodle too much sometimes I am told... LOL

Robynann,

How lovely.  Love the misty background; beautiful face and hair; the sheerness of crinoline; the shapely leg balanced on the tip of her toes.

What catches my eye and confuses me is where her arms enfold her leg.  I almost looks like part of a third leg, or a very swollen leg.  I think it's just shadowing, but it has me confused.

Regardless, it is beautiful and it's nice that she brought back good memories.

    Oh! Robynann, It is wonderful to see you painting again and how sore my heart is for you, just reading how something you loved and lived was taken away from you. Sadly we all have seasons in this life but console yourself in the thought that all those good times still live vividly in your memory and you can sit back, reminisce and enjoy all those times which you experienced.

My three year old grand daughter started ballet and tap lessons a few months ago and she is just loving it. She was loaned tap shoes by the teacher but got her new pair of tap shoes on Monday and was over the moon.

Thanks Mea and Patricia. Mea do you have any suggestions of what to do there. I now see what your talking about.

Ohhh Patricia your grandaughter has so many years ahead of her of wonder and happiness in the dance. I so hope she enjoys it. Tap is sooo much fun!!!

Hmmm... Robynann, I think the first thing I'd do is to eliminate the black line around the edge of her lower arm, especially the right angle under her elbow.  That draws the eye to the problem spot.

Rather than the heavy dark line, just gradiate the hint of roundness with shadow color.

Also, I am not sure what that arc of skin is above her elbow (arm or knee?).

Hope that helps.

I like the cheeky-look-at-me-aren't I good? expression on her face! It's a delightful painting.

it's suppose to be the indentation the shoes made when leaning on the wall. I probably made it too big.
